Notably, Tom Brands answered questions about their recent recruiting struggles, or, in Brands' words, "why we were getting our pants beat off."

Brands intimated that other schools were continuing to recruit kids after they had already verbaled to Iowa. Brands mentioned how Spencer Lee's father, Larry Lee, shared his perspective of the current college recruiting atmosphere with the Hawkeye coaching staff.

They gave us a portfolio of gold intel of how we were being recruited against by you-know-who and you-know-who and you-know-who.
You can hear Brands elaborate in the video embedded in the tweet below:

The other hot topic addressed at Media day was if Spencer Lee was going to take a redshirt season. Here, Brands gave as close to a definitive answer as we've heard yet on the plan for Lee.

Spencer Lee is a unique individual. He's a competitor from the word go. And you do what's best by the individual, and we'll certainly do that. In Spencer Lee's case, it might be the best thing for him to compete and not sit him, not put him on the shelf.
Brands elaborated on a potential timeline for Lee, hinting that he probably won't be competing in any duals during the first semester but that Lee will be at Midlands and that the team will make a final decision after the late December tournament.

Fans have had to patiently wait since the 2017 Pennsylvania High School State Championship finals to watch Lee in action on the mat.

The coaching staff will take a different approach with Jacob Warner. According to Brands, the other highly touted blue-chip true freshman on the Iowa roster is different than Lee, and Brands strongly implied that Warner will redshirt this season.

The Hawkeyes head coach of 12 years continued to heap praise on the true freshman from Murrysville, Pennsylvania. Said Brands regarding Lee, "He's fun to watch. He's entertaining. He brings a lot of scoring energy, a lot of boom, boom, boom, and that's very refreshing for our fans when they know that."

In a departure from his typically reserved nature when it comes to describing his wrestlers, Brands reiterated his approbation for Lee.

I just described Spencer Lee as boom, boom, boom.
It appears as though Hawkeyes wrestling fans should prepare themselves for some boom, boom, boom.
