Coveted blue-chipper Justin Mejia will not be attending the University of Illinois next year. The four-time California state champion -- only the second wrestler in history to accomplish the feat -- recently tweeted that he was denied admission to Illinois and will be considering other options for the 2017-18 season.

Mejia had originally committed to the University of Iowa as a sophomore but later reconsidered and later announced his commitment to Illinois. 

Former Illini assistant coach Mark Perry has recently gone back to Iowa to become a freestyle coach with the Hawkeye Wrestling Club and may influence Mejia's next move. IAWrestle has reported that Mejia is considering the Hawkeyes once more. Iowa is in need of help at 133, so if the interest is mutual, it could be a great fit. 

The No. 42-ranked wrestler on the Class of 2017 Big Board also went to Central Valley powerhouse Clovis High School, located minutes away from Fresno State, a school that will restart its wrestling program this fall and wrestle varsity matches for the first time since 2006. 

Mejia also won the prestigious Doc Buchanon Invitational earlier this year. You can watch his finals victory over Jaden Abas in the video below.
