Mike Mendoza Sounds Off On Boise State's Decision To Drop Wrestling
Boise State head wrestling coach Mike Mendoza weights in on the schools decision to drop wrestling.
On Tuesday, the heartbreaking announcement was made that Boise State was discontinuing its wrestling program effective immediately and pursuing a baseball program. Left in the wake of the school's decision was Broncos first-year head coach Mike Mendoza.
Mendoza was tabbed to the lead Boise State on May 20, 2016, after spending the previous six seasons as the head man at Cal State Bakersfield. In the school's press release announcing the hiring of Mendoza, Boise State athletic director Curt Aspey said, "This wrestling program has a long history of success. ... (Mendoza) has shown a great ability to connect his program with the community, all things that are very important to us."
A few hours after the decision was made, a reporter from the Idaho Statesmen caught up with Mendoza to get his reaction.
