Gabe Dean has not wrestled at a UWW freestyle competition in nearly three years, but the wait could soon be over at the US Open in Las Vegas on April 25-29. The last time the Cornell senior wrestled in a UWW freestyle event was back in 2014, when the international governing body was still named FILA.

At the 2014 Junior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, Dean won by forfeit in the third-place match, making his repechage tech fall over Pavlos Sotiriadis of Greece in the previous round the last time he's faced anyone in freestyle.

Dean made the world team by getting through a bracket full of hammers, such as Iowa's Sam Brooks, who Dean takes out in the video below.

The Titan Mercury Wrestling Club recently tweeted that Dean would be once again be stepping on the international mats, now updated from their old bright yellow and red look.

Dean hasn't registered yet, so it's a bit of a mystery as to whether he will be competing in freestyle or Greco-Roman. Dean finished second at the 2015 Pan-Am Senior Championships in Greco, so he has experience in both styles. Dean was taken out in the finals of that tournament by Gilberto Piquet Herrera of Cuba.
