NCAA Champs Gabe Dean And Nathan Tomasello Likely To Enter US Open
Wrestlers and their clubs are notoriously bad at registering for big events. They'll wait until the last second, register at the wrong weight, or even the wrong style. Sometimes, a female wrestler even shows up in the list for Greco-Roman.
But that doesn't stop them from hinting that they could, maybe, just possibly show up with a singlet and shoes to do some scrapping. Two recent NCAA champs in Nathan Tomasello and Gabe Dean did just that this week, leaving clues on their social media accounts that they will be at the US Open.
Notice the inconspicuous retweet from the four-time Cornell All American.
Tomasello attends Ohio State, home to Ohio Regional Training Center, which has one of the best social media presences right now. They re-posted this instagram from NaTo this morning, and FloWrestling was able to confirm that the 2015 NCAA champ will be wrestling at 57kg in Vegas.
Registration for the senior and junior men's freestyle Open is on FloArena. The event encompasses a wide range of tournaments, including the world team trials for both senior and junior Greco-Roman, as well as the world team trials for senior women's freestyle. Expect an expansive rollout of articles for each of those tournaments, which will be LIVE on Flo starting on Tuesday, April 25th.
Some other current division 1 stars currently registered for men's freestyle include 133lb NCAA finalist Seth Gross (South Dakota St) at 61kg, as well as his 2016 junior worlds teammate in Alec Pantaleo (Michigan) at 70kg. Also registered is Chance Marsteller at 74kg. On FRL 191, Willie stated that Jason Nolf told him at FloNats (53 minute mark) he would be entering at 70kg.
