Frank Molinaro and Jared Frayer have been named as assistant coaches at Virginia Tech. The the former middleweight Olympians will be moving to Blacksburg, VA, to join the staff under new Hokies head coach Tony Robie.

After graduating from Penn State, Molinaro spent two seasons as a Rutgers assistant and then served as an assistant in Happy Valley, PA, with his alma mater for two years. He was a four-time All-American at PSU and the 2012 national champion for the Nittany Lions.

Frayer was a two time All-American at Oklahoma, his highest finish being second in 2002. After graduating, Frayer was an assistant head coach at Harvard, Wisconsin, and most recently at OU from 2011 to 2014.

Both Molinaro and Frayer bring Olympic experience to the Virginia Tech wrestling room. Frayer was Team USA's 66kg representative in freestyle at the 2012 London Games. Molinaro made the U.S. freestyle team at 65kg for the 2016 Rio Games, placing 5th.

That international expertise will be invaluable to Robie as he builds up the regional training center in Blacksburg, known as the Southeast RTC.  Three-time All-American Ty Walz will be assuming the Volunteer Assistant role.

Robie is filling the VT assistants postitions after Derek St. John and Mike Zadick left to join former Hokies coach Kevin Dresser at Iowa State.
