Wrestling Superstars And Leaders React To Teasdale's Commitment Change
After Gavin Teasdale changed his commitment to Penn State, many of wrestling's superstars and leaders joined the conversation about recruiting in wrestling.
Gavin Teasdale's change of heart and decision to go to Penn State after originally verbally committing to Iowa prompted reactions from many of wrestling superstars about the idea of verbal commitments and recruiting in general.
Jordan Burroughs fired off a few tweets initially:
College recruiting is a dirty game.

Don't tell me why I shouldn't go to another school, how I'm not a good fit there. Tell me why I should attend yours. Negative recruiting
— Jordan Burroughs (@alliseeisgold) March 22, 2017
There was a time when a commitment was just that. A commitment. Not a, "I might come". It's too easy to change your mind nowadays.

If you're not ready to commit yet, don't. Maybe it's the coaches faults for pressuring 16 year olds into a life altering decision too soon.

Ohio State's heavyweight legend, Tommy Rowlands added his thoughts as well:
Want someone 2 honor their committment? Honor them by not forcing their hand at age 15 w inexperienced parents @Benaskren @TRowFunkyShow
— Tommy Rowlands (@TommyDRowlands) March 22, 2017
All a committment means now-a-days is "you're the front runner until I sign" @Benaskren @TRowFunkyShow

Clovis Head Coach Adam Tirapelle doesn't see the value in verbal commitments:
Verbal commitment is such an oxymoron. Right up there with the jumbo shrimp and the open marriage. Not binding in any way. Made by media.
— Adam Tirapelle CIMA (@adamtirapelle) March 22, 2017
Commitment requires TWO parties. And colleges can't commit to or comment on verbal. So HS kids lured into 1-way "commitments" for media attn
— Adam Tirapelle CIMA (@adamtirapelle) March 22, 2017
What if coaches started ignoring verbal commitments and actively recruited all non-signed athletes? Makes a verbal only useful for media.
— Adam Tirapelle CIMA (@adamtirapelle) March 22, 2017
Verbal commitment good for college program and the media. Athlete only reduces leverage & gains nothing. I guess 2 outta 3 ain't bad...

Wyoming Seminary Head Coach Scott Green sees which way recruiting is trending:
Since the change in contact times the NCAA wrestling recruiting scene is becoming more like football and hoops.
— Coach Green (@SemWrestling) March 22, 2017
I'm not making a value judgment, just an observation.

Olympic Champion Brandon Slay thinks recruits should take their time:
You should wisely take all 5 paid visits & actually experience first hand all that each school has to offer. DON'T RUSH IT! https://t.co/FHYz2GisS7
— Brandon Slay (@CoachSlay) March 22, 2017
some kids do that. I think a large chunk of kids make college decisions emotionally on SM w/out having all the necessary info.
