Coming on the heels of the USA Wrestling and Beat The Streets announcement to have a U.S.A. vs Japan dual in the middle of Times Square, Russia is reportedly putting together a dual meet themselves. Wrestdag has released an interview with First Deputy Of The Russian Wrestling Federation and 8 time world champion, Arsen Fadzayev, saying that the Russia plans to hold a dual meet that bills “Russia vs The World”. The match is to be held in the North Ossetian city of Vladikavkaz on March 24th.
The money involved in this will reportedly be a considerable jump up from most friendly duals with athletes getting $3,000 just to show up and $10,000 to win. With that kind of money involved many of the world’s best might be clearing their calendar. Wrestdag says that Olympic Champions Jordan Burroughs and Taha Akgul are “likely” while other medalist from Rio, Kyle Snyder and Hasan Yazdani have refused do to prior commitments. Italian world champion and Olympic medalist, Frank Chamizo, has agreed to compete at the event according to Fadzayev.
The Russian seem to be keeping quiet about who will compete for the host country saying simply “It will be known closer to the match meeting”.
