After months of speculation, Kyle Dake is making it official.  The four-time NCAA Champion will be headed back down to 74kg after wrestling at 86kg last year.  Dake announced this news and more on his blog. His next event will be at the Paris International Tournament.

Dake has been very public about the challenge of circumventing Jordan Burroughs in the World Team Trials when Burroughs was able to sit in the challenge tournament finals while other competitors wrestled in the mini-tournament.

With Burroughs failing to place at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, this all changed. Previously, medaling at the World Championships would enable you to sit out.  With Burroughs not placing, he no longer has this advantage.

If the World Team trials procedures stay the same, Burroughs will now need to enter and win the US Open to sit in the trials finals.  The same will be true for other potential challengers at 74kg.  Dake and Burroughs will likely be joined by Mark Hall, Alex Dieringer and a host of other competitors vying for a spot on the 2017 World Team.
