Greco-Roman Brackets For 2016 Golden Grand Prix
Greco-Roman brackets for Pat Smith, Pat Martinez and Cheney Haight at the 2016 Golden Grand Prix
There are only three Americans competing in Greco at the Golden Grand Prix. Wrestling starts at 1 a.m. EST on Saturday, November 26th. Check out the brackets below.
71kg
Pat Smith (Minnesota Storm) starts off with Ridong Zhong of China, who was bronze at the past two Asian championships. A win there could put him in the quarters against Balint Korpasi (HUN), who was silver at last year's Euro Games and bronze at the Euro championships this year. The other potential opponent is Azim Sadegh Garmsiri, the Ukrainian Memorial winner from February and a part of Iran's World Cup winning team.80kg
Pat Martinez (Army WCAP) gets one final tuneup before next month's non-Olympic weight world championships. His first round match is against Bachir Sid Azara, a junior world bronze medalist from Algeria. Azara won the senior Asian championships at this weight. Waiting in the next round is Pascal Eisele (GER), the Euro champ and World Military champ at this weight.85kg
Cheney Haight (NYAC) is on the very bottom of this bracket against Sultan Ismayilov, who appears to only have one competition under his belt in last year's GGP. He could wind up against African champ Adem Boddjemline (ALG) or Tadeusz Michalik (POL). This year's Euro bronze medalist, Michalik won his last two tournaments in the Grand Prix of Germany and Kristjan Palusalu Memorial.Related Content
