Columbia has suspended its wrestling season after racist, homophobic, and sexist text messages were published on the school's student-run news website. The team was originally scheduled to open its season this past Sunday at the Jonathan Koloust Bearcat Open at Binghampton University but did not compete due to the pending investigation.

Per the Associate Press, the university commented on the matter in a statement, saying: "The Department of Athletics has decided that Columbia wrestlers will not compete until we have a full understanding of the facts on which to base the official response to this disturbing matter."

The text message conversations, which took place in the GroupMe App and date from 2014 to this month, were said to have been sent to the student-run website by an anonymous source. Screenshots of the messages can be found here.
