Friday At Bill Farrel: 61kg-Garrett, Stieber, Graff, Brewer; 70kg-IMAR, Green, JO, Kennedy
With a full weekend under our belts, NCAA wrestling has already experienced a drastic change on the Division I landscape.
The biggest development is that NCAA All-American and No. 4-ranked Amarveer Dhesi of Oregon State has suffered a serious injury and will be missing an extended period of time. It is not yet known if the injury will cost Dhesi the entire season.
Canadian wrestling website 49north.com initially tweeted about Amar's injury.
Unfortunately, Amar Dhesi has a torn ACL and will likely miss this NCAA season.— 49 North Wrestling (@49NorthWrest) November 6, 2016
After a wrestle off in which Bo Nickal reportedly downed Matt McCutcheon in two matches, McCutcheon was temporarily without a spot in the lineup. That appears to not be the reality going forward. McCutcheon will likely be in the lineup at 197 for the Nittany Lions this weekend against Stanford or Army. It's possible he will split time with Kellan Stout this weekend. This was first reported on blackshoediaries.com. The article gives details on the wrestle off matches between Nickal/McCutcheon and McCutcheon/Stout.
Matt McCutcheon downs All-American Blake Stauffer at NCAAs:
Tennessee-Chattanooga will be redshirting a pair of ranked wrestlers in No. 8 Scottie Boykin and No. 20 Mike Pongracz. Rutgers former 149-pounder Tyson Dippery has made the cut down to 133 and knocked off his highly ranked teammate, Scott Delvecchio. For the time being, Dippery will be the 133 starter for the Scarlet Knights.
