In between becoming the first wrestler in PA history to beat three defending state champions in a row to earn his own crown, and putting an exclamation point on FloNations belt with a win over 3-time California Champ Justin Mejia, everyone in the wrestling world wondered where this kid - Brian Courtney of Athens, Pennsylvania - was going to go to college.
The answer everyone heard was that Cornell pretty much had the situation on lock down. Ithaca was just a short drive from his home, and he worked out with fellow Big Red commits - namely Yianni Diakomihalis and Vito Arujau - often.
But, my friends, this is why following recruiting is so fun.
After his headlining exploits, several suitors made their push. In the end, Courtney narrowed his list to a final four of Cornell, North Carolina, Virginia, and Nebraska. On Friday, he delivered to us a unique way of telling us his final decision.
And so it will be the Virginia Cavaliers winning the rights to Courtney's services. UVA has traditionally recruited the Keystone State well and has 7 Pennsylvanians currently on their roster. Courtney, who projects at 133/141, joins Cam Coy (PA/157) in the Cav's Class of 2017.
