MEDAL MATCHES:

Inioue of Japan takes on Bolkvadze of Georgia for Bronze. 30 seconds in and Inioue is in the middle of the mat. Now Inioue gets put down for passivity. No turn. 0-0 still. Scoreless after 1, but Bolkvadze dictate that period. Bolkvadze gets the 1-0 lead after another passive point. Bolkvadze put down, but it's still 1-0. That's the final, bronze for Bolkvadze.

Ryu vs Chunayev in the next Bronze! Wowza. Scoreless 1 minute in. Ryu put down. Chunayev can't get a turn. Caution and 2, then Ryu gets put down again and rolls him up with a few guts to make it 8-0! He takes Bronze.

GOLD MEDAL MATCH: Arutyunyan takes on Stefanik. We're underway. 1 minute in and nothing doing. Now Stefanik gets a chance on top. No turn for Stefanik and he gives up a step out. 1-0 Arutyunyan. 20 to go in the first. Period ends 1-0 Arutyunyan. 2nd underway. Arutyunyan bleeding and he gets cleaned up. Stefanik warned for passivity. Arutyunyan hit for passivity again! Unreal! 1-1 Stefanik leads. That's how it ends. So sad.

4-0 lead for Ildem after 1 against Ciurariu at 98kg Bronze bout. 45 to go in the bout. Ildem takes it 4-0 for Bronze. 

Schoen of Sweden takes on Ghasem of Iran for the last bronze bout.  No score 1 minute in.  Just as I say that a takedown for Schoen makes it 2-0. Another turna makes it 4-0 Schoen. Now a pair of guts makes it 4-4 Ghasem! He leads! He takes it 4-4!

GOLD MEDAL MATCH: Aleksanyan of Armenia takes on Lugo of Cuba. Underway!  Aleksanyan warned for passivity.  1 minute in.  A warning a piece now. Lugo is going down.  Gut for Aleksanyan makes it 2-0. 15 to go in 1st and now period ends.  Now Aleksanyan must go under. Elbow to elbow but Lugo can't get it! Lugo going down again.  1 minute to go. 3-0 Aleksanyan. Aleksanyan picks him up but can't get a turn.  Slip by Lugo and the match is over!  Aleksanyan goes 3 straight and is the Olympic Champion! 

Repechage: First medal match is Staebler against Inoue of Japan. 48 in, nothing going on as Inoue is warned for passivity. 90 seconds in and Staebler gets his chance on top. No turn and they're back neutral. First period ends. 0-0. Now Staebler goes under, no turn for Inoue. Passivity point for Staebler, he leads 1-0. Staebler can get the lift, but no turn. 1-0 still. Stepout for Staebler makes it 2-0. Takedown for Inoue at the edge with 20 to go! Inoue does it! Upsets the World Champ.

Next up we have World Silver Ryu taking on Saleh of Egypt. Scoreless 2:30 in. 1st period ends scoreless. Saleh put down. 1 point passive, 2 points correct throw, caution and 2 and it's 5-0 Ryu. Ryu advances.

At 98 Ciurariu is taking on Timoncini in the first repechage bout. 3-0 lead for Ciurariu in the 2nd. That's the final.

Xiao of China vs Ghasem of Iran and we're tied at 0, 1:20 in. Xiao gets gutted easily and it's 2-0 Ghasem at the break. Pace changes as we start the 2nd with Xiao coming out hard and he gets Ghasem put down 31 seconds in. Close to a gut but can't get it. 4:15 in now. Xiao gets put down and it's 5-0. 1 minute left. Caution and 2 for a headbutt and now it's 7-0 Ghasem. That's the final.

PRELIMS: Two nails weight classes get under way today with 66kg and 98kg in Greco Roman! At 66kg dance boy aka, #1 (at 71kg) Rasul Chunaev takes on Martinez of Cuba. Martinez takes down Chunayev! 2-0 Martinez. Chunaev with a lift but can't get a turn. 2-0 into the 2nd. Upset brewing as Martinez looks great. There's a 4 for Chunaev with a headlock! He leads 4-2. He holds on as Martinez comes hard late.

World Champ Staebler knotted at zero against Venckatis of Lithuania. Still nothing in the 2nd. Staebler put down. No turn and it's still 0-0. Now Staebler gets his chance to turn on top again as he takes a 1-0 lead. 2 and 2 as Staebeler turns but gets held on his back. Staebler moves on 3-2!

Olympic champion Noroozi moves on 2-1 over Venezuela. Aratunyan (helicopter guy) with some unreal bombs for the 9-0 tech!

Ryu leads Lorincz 2-0 at the break. Ryu with another score to go up 4-0. Ryu wins 4-0.

World Champ Aleksanyan gets a 5-2 win.

Albiev gets a quick 2 to end the first period. Chunayev's corner wanted to challenge but thought better of it and took the stuffed animal back. Forced par terre and Chunayev scores to take the lead and get the win, 3-2 over 2008 Olympic champ Albiev.

Stefanik gets a 4 against Staebler, but it's under review. Call upheld and now it's 5-1 Stefanik after a failed challenge. 3:39 into this one. Another point for Staebler as he goes on top. 5-2. Now 6-2 as Staebler gives up a step out point after he thought Stefanik's head touched. Stefanik wins!

Noroozi losing 1-0 to Bolkvadze. An Olympic Champion on the brink. 90 to go for Noroozi. Bolkvadze does it! Junior World Champ takes out an Olympic Champ!

Arutunyan vs Ryu! This will be a great one. Underway now as both battle for center. Ryu warned for passivity. Arutyunyan with his chance on top.
Chunayev already up 6-0, by the way, and now has won. Ryu jumps the gun twice but no caution and 2. He goes low gut then trap for 2! Arutyunyan leads 2-0. Now Ryu will get his chance on top. Arutyunyan hits a stand up and is away! Ryu not pleased. 2-0 after 1. Ryu coming out hard and moving Arut around. just 25 into the 2nd. Ryu gets another chance on top and it's 2-1 Arutyunyan. He blocks off and fights hard to avoid the turn and it's 2-1 still for Arutyunyan. 37 to go. Arutyunyan does it! 2-1, what a match!

Aleksanyan, the World Champ at 98 kilos takes the mat against Ciurariu of Romania, scoreless early. Aleksanyan will get his chance on top now. Two easy guts and it's 4-0 Aleksanyan, now it's 6-0 after a takedown on the edge. Caution and 2 and Aleksanyan wins 8-0.

Ildem and Magomedov scoreless after 1 at 98kg. Ildem winning 1-1 now with 2 minutes to go. Ildem wins.

In the next Greco quarter Guri of Bulgaria takes on Schoen of Sweden. Still scoreless two minutes in. Now 2nd period underway and we're still scoreless. Schoen with the easiest trap arm ever, then a big four, then a caution and two makes it match over!

Lugo up 2-0 over Olympic Champ Rezaeie! 4-0 1 minute to go. Match over! Olympic champion goes down. Cuba continues their run.

Chunayev takes on Arutyunyan. This will be outstanding, I promise. Battle in the center to start. No points yet. 90 seconds in. Chunayev going high gut then low gut, but can't get the turn. Arutyunyan gets the four from top! He leads 4-0 at the turn. Stefanik pins Bolkvadze and is in the finals! Now 4-1 with 30 to go! Arutyunyan into the finals!

Gold Medal Match: Arutyunyan, Armenia vs Bolkvadze, Georgia

Aleksanyan taking on Ildem in the 98 semi's. 1-0 now after Aleksanyan gets the step out. Aleksanyan moving him around. 2 minutes in, still 1-0. Now Ildem goes under. Aleksanyan with 4 guts for the 9-0 win! He's in the finals!

Scoreless between Lugo and Schoen. Lugo gets 1 for a step out with an underhook. Lugo extends lead 2-0 after a failed challenge, 30 to go. 2-0 final, Lugo wins!
