America had some talented young women on display at the Grand Prix of Spain yesterday, and are bringing home three medals to show for it. We also sent a Greco contingent bringing home a medal.

While it was being billed as the women’s final tune-up before Rio (just like the men last week in Germany), none of our four Olympians ended up competing.

Team USA was led by junior world teamer Becka Leathers, who took silver at the non-Olympic 55kg. It’s the same junior weight at which she won a Pan Am title and world bronze last year.

The two bronze medals were won by Olympic Trials finalists Victoria Anthony and Tamyra Mensah.

Anthony won her fifth international medal in the past year, and won by technical superiority over two girls ranked higher than her in the world in Jessica Blaszka (NED) and Vinesh (IND). Mensah’s only loss was to defending 69kg world champ Natalia Vorobieva (RUS).

As he continues to prepare for the University world championships in October, Pat Martinez picked up his fourth bronze medal of 2016. He has three of those, including yesterday’s, at the non-Olympic weight of 80kg. However, his Pan Am bronze was at 85kg, the same weight he will be competing at in Turkey for Universities.

This is the final senior level event for all three styles until the Olympics. Wrestling in Rio starts on August 14th with 59kg and 75kg Greco-Roman.
