Tech Thursday: Become A Master With Guts
Still in the heart of freestyle season, we're continuing with another freestyle-focused technique Thursday. A week ago, we showed you how to become a master of the leg lace and how to end matches quickly. This week, we'll stick with the par terre theme for our best gut wrench technique. As Daniel Dennis showed his at the Olympic Trials, a good gut wrench can end a match in the blink of an eye.

Dan Dennis - Rib-Crunching Gut Wrench
"Squeeze. Squeeze really, really, really hard and try to break his ribs." While Dennis' philosophy may seem simple, there is plenty of technique involved. Dennis reaches across his opponent, lifts up at the armpit, and simultaneously wraps his other arm deep around his opponent's waist. Then, he locks butterfly grip on the side that he wants to take his opponent. Dennis then drives into his opponent, loads them into his lap, and doesn't stop until the ref pulls him off the guy.

Alex Clemsen - Gut To Leg In To Awesome Trap Arm Gut
Over the past few years, we have seen Daton Fix become a nightmare on top with this move. As Coach Clemsen shows, you get your gut wrench lock, and kind of rock your opponent to the side so that you can slip a boot in. From there, Clemsen swings the leg with the boot in while locking up his gut wrench with his opponent's arm trapped in the lock. Then, it's game over.

Andy Hrovat - 90 Degree Lock Gut Wrench
Olympian Andy Hrovat shows the gut wrench taught to him by Olympic champion Brandon Slay. The unique part of this move is the way you lock up the gut. It is more of high gut wrench, and you lock by grabbing your own wrist.

Reece Humphrey - Slick Gutwrench
This one is all about the set up. As you jump competition levels it becomes more and more difficult to lock up your gut wrench. Lucky for you, Reece Humphrey has a solution for you straight from Ohio RTC head coach Lou Rosselli. Humphrey drops do to the leg like he is going for a leg lace, and then goes under the leg hooking the hip. From there, Humphrey has multiple finishes. Humphrey shows his lift and trap arm gut, and just standard gut wrench.

Matt Lindland - Greco Gutwrench
U.S. Greco National team coach Matt Lindland gives a different variation of the gut wrench than the previous ones. Lindland locks extremely high on his opponent's chest, then drives forward hard before loading his opponent into his lap and rolling. Lindland also shows how to transition from that gut, to sliding his hands to a low gut, and picking your opponent up off of the mat and throwing him for four.
