Fargo Participation Leads to Collegiate Success

Tony Rotundo fargo banner.jpg

There's no doubt about it that there is a strong correlation between having success at the collegiate level and wrestling at Fargo. More than the majority of Division 1 All-Americans have participated in Cadet and Junior Freestyle and Greco nationals in their high school careers.

Stats provided by Jason Bryant of Mat Talk Online. The Mat Talk Online Cadet & Junior Nationals Almanac is available as a 241-page digital publication at www.mattalkonline.com/fargoguide.

Past 10 Years (2007-2016)
During the past 10 years, there were 791 eligible wrestlers who placed at the NCAA championships that had an opportunity to compete in Fargo. The nine wrestlers that were ineligible were foreign-born. The same number of athletes were eligible in last year's report that spanned 2006-2015. The 2016 foreign All-American was Oregon's State Amar Dhesi, who is a native of Canada.

Over the past 10 years, 82% of the eligible Division 1 All-American competed in Fargo. 80% of those All-Americans earned hardware at Fargo. All but two of this year's Division 1 national champions competed at Fargo, in which 6 of the 8 were crowned Freestyle national champions.

The Numbers: In 2012, 57.75% of the All Americans at the NCAA Division I Championships, were also former Fargo All Americans. In total 75% of all NCAA Division I All Americans either became a Fargo All American, or at least competed at Fargo.

Numbers Don't Lie: There are several Division 1 wrestlers who aren't All-Americans, but competed at Fargo. Not to mention collegiate wrestlers of all divisions who participated. At least half of this year's NAIA national champions wrestled at Fargo in high school, such as two-time Fargo champion, Michael Pixley who won a NAIA national title this year with Grand View. Only one of the ten of this year's Division II national champions did not compete at Fargo.

Over the past ten years 89 out of the 100 D1 National Champions competed at Fargo, while 80 out of the 100 placed in Fargo.
