Adland Varayev, an Olympic silver medalist and the vice president of the Russian Wrestling Federation, has been found dead. Varayev had been missing since May 3 since he fell in a river. He was 54.
"Varayev’s body was found today. He has identified by relatives," Saitiyev said to tass.ru. "The search has not stopped since the day when it happened. Many people have been involved in the search, in difficult weather conditions, in a land-slide-prone area. Many have been hoping to find him alive."
Varayev was the first ethnic Chechen to win an Olympic medal. He fell to Kenny Monday in the 1988 Olympic Finals in Seoul.
Varayev knocked off Dave Schultz in the 1987 World Championships:
