A few weeks ago, Easton High School’s longtime head wrestling coach Steve Powell announced that he would be retiring from his position.

Now, it is being reported by lehighvalleylive.com that Jamarr Billman, a three-time All-American and two-time state champion for the Red Rovers in 1996 and 1997, will be the next to take over the position.

Billman graduated from Lock Haven in 2001 after transferring from Penn State, where he was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year after his first AA finish when he placed fifth at the NCAA tournament. A pair of fifth place finishes came in 2000 and 2001 for Billman as he completed his career with a 117-13 record.

So far nothing has been confirmed when it comes to Billman taking over for Powell. Easton Athletic director Jim Pokrivsak stated the following in an article by The Morning Call:

"All I can say is we contacted a candidate about the job," Pokrivsak said. "We had 17 applicants and two withdrew. We interviewed five of them and brought two back for second interviews.”

"We should get confirmation back from the candidate about whether he's going to take the position by Monday or Tuesday for sure. And then as long as he's approved by the school board [at it's June 21st meeting], everything should be fine. Until then, everything is tentative. So we're not done with the process."

In the past, Billman served as an assistant coach for the Rovers under Powell before taking the assistant coaching position at Wilson Area High School. He also coached at the collegiate level at Cornell University for three years.
