Another week goes by and we've got a fresh set of upsets. There weren't any mega upsets this week like Jackson over Nickal but a few unranked guys picked off some studs. Additionally we saw a few top 5 guys go down. Here are my top 10 upsets of the week!
10) #14 John Staudenmayer, UNC over #12 David McFadden, VT
Not a major one, but a potential budding ACC rivalry!
9) 184: #12 Matt McCutcheon, PSU over #6 TJ Dudley, Nebraska
Maybe an upset in ranking only as McCutcheon has had frequent success against TJ. Still a match worth mentioning.
8) 174: #11 Mike Ottinger, CMU over #8 Blaise Butler, Missouri
Blaise continues to struggle, suffering his 2nd loss from an opponent outside the top 10. This is something we didn't see from Blaise a year ago.
7) 125: #15 Ryan Millhof, Oklahoma over #8 Paul Petrov, Bucknell
Banner weekend for the Sooner Sophomore as he not only knocked off Petrov but he also took out Zeke Moisey.
6) 285: #16 Billy Smith, Rutgers over #7 Mike Kroells, Minnesota
Smith had been on a slide of late. This win is a great step for Billy back in the right direction.
5) 141: #16 Solomon Chishko, Virginia Tech over #9 Joey Ward, UNC
Chishko has been incredibly solid this year with his only losses coming to Micah Jordan and Matt Manley. Here he knocked off a very tough Joey Ward in their dual.
4) 141: #11 Tommy Thorn, Minnesota over #4 Anthony Ashnault, Rutgers
The Gopher Freshman continues to climb the ladder at 141 pounds. He absolutely dominated Ashnault 8-1 this upset helped his Gopher squad pull the upset over Rutgers.
3) 197: UR Kyle Conel, Kent State over #14 Phil Wellington, Ohio
Great weekend for Conel as he knocked off both Wellington and Abro this weekend. Look for him to join the rankings this week.
2) 174: UR Brian Harvy, Army over #10 Casey Kent, Penn
Kent is coming off of a great Southern Scuffle where he beat Brian Realbuto and Chanlder Rogers, so there wasn't much momentum to indicate this could be a potential upset.
1) 141 UR Trevor Jauch, UNI over #5 Chris Mecate, ODU
UNI has this "problem" with 2 really good 141 pounders. Jauch beats Mecate, while Koethe has beaten Abidin and Bleise.
