FloWrestler of the Week: Nate Jackson, Indiana
A week after Bo Nickel becomes the top-ranked 174-pound wrestler in the country, Nate Jackson knocks him off.

Bo Nickal started 2016 off with a serious bang as he stormed through the Southern Scuffle to win the title and became the #1-ranked wrestler in the country at 174-pounds.
But Nate Jackson changed all that this weekend when he handed Nickal his first loss of the season after sitting atop the weight class for just one week.Jackson, who came into the bout as the #12-ranked wrestler in the country, met Nickal in the Hoosiers home gym and he did not play the friendly host to the previously undefeated Nittany Lion.
To get an overview of what took place in the bout, check out CP’s summary of Nickal’s first blemish of the season.
But anyway, to make a long story short, Jackson took advantage of an opportunity to snatch the lead from the redshirt freshman in the first period and was able to hang on to get the 7-6 win after a crazy battle where he had to fend of the relentless attacks of Nickal.
And because of that, Nate Jackson is our FloWrestler of the Week.
Micky Phillippi, Derry: It finally happened. Micky Phillippi finally got over the hump and defeated #1-Luke Pletcher. Calling this a rivalry could be wrong since Pletcher has come out on top the last five times against Phillippi which dates back to 2014, but this time it was Phillippi’s turn to stand atop the podium over Pletcher.
Layne Van Anrooy, Roseburg: Two years, two straight Doc Buchanan titles. Van Anrooy didn’t just collect another Cowboy hat, he did so by defeated Calvary Chapel’s Justin Thomas in the finals with a perfectly timed takedown late in the bout to get the win.
Joe Grello, Bergen Catholic: Grello wrestled a pretty complete match to upset #6-Calvary Chapel’s Jeremy Thomas. Grello became the third Bergen Catholic wrestler to take home a Doc B title and help Bergen Catholic become the first out-of-state team to win the Doc B team title.
Montorie Bridges, Altus: Made Geary Invitational history as he became the third four-time tournament champion in the 72 years of the tournament’s existence. In the first round he defeated #17 (at 120)-Zach Sherman of Blair Academy to get his tournament off to a great start before going on to claim his fourth title.
