Iowa On Track To Shatter NCAA <br/> Dual Attendance Record
It is forecasted to be a beautiful November Saturday in Iowa City, IA. The pleasant weather is the last piece of the puzzle being put together by the Iowa Hawkeyes as they attempt to shatter the NCAA dual meet attendance record. The Hawks will host the Oklahoma State Cowboys at Kinnick Stadium 11am, Saturday. The mat will be rolled out on the football surface prior to the top-ten ranked Hawkeye football team hosting the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Iowa has reported over 34,000 tickets sold as of Wednesday, November 11th. With nice weather and the success of the Iowa Hawkeye football team a perfect storm has been created. Some estimates have walk-up ticket sales driving the final attendance over 40,000.
The attendance on Saturday will more than double the attendance record that is currently held by Penn State. This will be the first record breaking dual between Iowa and Oklahoma State. This will be the tenth record breaking dual that Iowa has participated in, and the fifth they have hosted. The last time Iowa broke the record they hosted Iowa State in December of 2008.
The attendance record rivalry has long centered around the Iowa Hawkeyes. They have outlasted Iowa State and Minnesota prior to the most recent surge by Penn State. The record has outgrown many on-campus arenas and forced Iowa to think outside the box. Let’s applaud Tom Brands and company for being willing to push the envelope. The ball is in your court Coach Sanderson.
