What 2 Watch 4 - D1 In Full Swing

We saw a few quite substantial match ups in just one day of wrestling last week. With significantly more matches in play that will beget more and more big time match ups.
Friday, November 6:
Virginia at North Dakota State
125 - Nick Herrman and Josh Rodriguez should hit today in a battle of ranked 125 pounder. Rodriguez is coming off a loss to Kris Williams.
149 - Clayton Ream and TJ Miller are both quality 149 pounders who have ranking potential.
Lehigh at Bucknell
125 - Darian Cruz will be taking on Paul Petrov. There’s a strong chance for an upset for Petrov. He was 2-0 against AA Cruz two years ago.
Saturday, November 7:
Central Michigan vs. Rider at Eastern Michigan
149 - Collin Heffernan will have his hands full with BJ Clagon.
Michigan State vs. Utah Valley at Eastern Michigan
133 - We could see Jade Rauser take on Javier Gasca if Gasca makes the cut back down to 133. Gasca is a talent and took out Earl Hall last year.
Indiana, Ohio State at Eastern Michigan's Eastern Michigan Open, 10:00 AM
Keep an eye out for Ohio State’s Freshman and maybe a few starters to compete here at the EMU open. Could we get our first glimpse of Myles Martin at 174?
Wyoming's Cowboy Open: LIVE ON FLO Air Force, Boise State, Northern Colorado
A few guys I’m excited to watch this weekend are Geo Martinez, Trey Andrews, Archie Colgan, and Ben Stroh. Also, Nikko Reyes and Dylan Gabel are teammates who will square off at 184. Last week Gabel knocked off Reyes. If history repeats itself, Reyes could make the drop down to 174 eventually.
Central Michigan vs. Purdue at Eastern Michigan
141 - A big spot for both guys as Zach Horan will take on Danny Sabatello.
Edinboro vs. Ohio at Eastern Michigan
157 - Austin Matthews will take on Spartak Chino in a battle of ranked 57 pounders.
Rider vs. Utah Valley at Eastern Michigan
133 - Rob Deutsch will look to hang on to his #20 ranking against #18 Jade Rauser.
Iowa State at Virginia Tech, 1:00 PM LIVE ON FLO (NO ARCHIVE! NOW OR NEVER)
125 - Joey Dance will look to fend off the scrappy Freshman Nathan Boston. Boston will need to find a way to get this match on the mat, where he excels.
133 - All American Earl Hall will be favored against Virginia Tech’s Kevin Norstrem. Norstrem will try to slow down Hall. Easier said than done.
141 - Two lights out leg attackers will hit when Solomon Chishko of VT takes on John Meeks. Expect fireworks as both guys can put points up.
149 - Don’t sleep on Blayne Briceno against Sal Mastriani. Mastriani is a big time favorite, but Briceno is legit and looked good at the OTC.
157 - #3 Nick Brascetta will be facing either Logan Breitenbach or the dynamic Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer.
165 - True Freshman David McFadden will have his first big test against #7 Tanner Weatherman. Interestingly, Tanner beat Zach Epperly twice last year at 174.
174 - Zach Epperly will look to maintain his #2 ranking against Lelund Weatherspoon who will get to compete at his optimal weight at 174 finally.
184 - I’m curious to see if they send out Zach Zavatsky or Austin Gabel, just keep an eye on that situation.
197 - The progression of Jared Haught is something that is a huge storyline for the Hokies. He’ll need to hold serve here against the Harrington-less Cyclones.
285 - Ty Walz should be able to take care of business against Quean Smith.
Illinois vs. Utah Valley
133 - Zane Richards will take on the very talented Jade Rauser in a scrap between ranked 133 pounders.
Clarion vs. Illinois at Eastern Michigan
141 - Brock on Brock crime! Brock Zacherl will face another test against Brock Ervin of Illinois.
Virginia at Minnesota
125 - Ethan Lizak and Nick Herrman will butt heads. Both guys are on the edge between being ranked and unranked.
133 - Sam Brancale will look to pull the upset against George DiCamillo.
197 - Zach Nye will face the highly ranked Brett Pfarr. Can’t wait to see how Pfarr looks up a weight.
South Dakota State vs. Virginia at Minnesota
141 - Zach Watson against Seth Gross could be a blast to watch!
South Dakota State at Minnesota, 8:00 PM (7:00 PM)
141 - Tommy Thorn and Seth Gross will lock horns in a battle of former Minnesota HS wrestlers.
Sunday, November 8:
HOKIE OPEN: LIVE ON FLO!
Franklin & Marshall, Harvard, Hofstra, Lehigh, Maryland, Navy, Old Dominion, Penn, Princeton, Rutgers, Sacred Heart at Binghamton's Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open, 9:00 AM
Chattanooga, Columbia, Duke, North Carolina, Stanford, VMI
There will be a few tough Freshman/Sophomore’s to keep an eye on in that division including Andrew Dunn and Solomon Chishko.
Open:
125 - Joey Dance is the guy to beat here as he’ll look to go back to back at the Hokie Open. IC can’t wait to get a look at Stanford’s Connor Schram down at 125. UNC is sending a fleet of 25 pounders as the look for someone to separate and take that spot.
133 - Wow! Can’t wait to see WVU’s True Freshman Keegan Moore down at 133. Could it be a Zeke Moisey type situation where they look at Keegan here and determine if he’s ready to go? Don’t be surprised. Also at 133 we’ll have the UNC duo of Joey Ward and AC Headlee. Headlee is a True Freshman but is preparing as though he’ll be the guy this year. VT’s Kevin Norstrem has reportedly made strides this Summer.
141 - Joey McKenna and #1 Evan Henderson are the big dogs here at 141. Henderson is the favorite but an uber-talent like McKenna could make things very interesting. Also of note, Sam Krivus, Sam Speno and Mike Pongracz are all in the mix as well.
149 - Sal Mastriani will look to win another Hokie Open title at 149. He will be challenged by Troy Heilmann, Christian Barber, Mitch Finesilver and WVU’s True Freshman Pat Duggan.
157 - Columbia’s Marcus Schiedel may be the guy to beat here at 157. He’ll be challenged by a young crop including Cam Harrell, Max Hvolbek, Chad Pyke and Dayton Racer.
165 - This may be one of the toughest weights with two returning All Americans in Ethan Ramos and Jim Wilson entered. David McFadden, as a True Freshman could be the biggest potential challenger to Ramos. Don’t count out Connor Flynn of WVU either.
174 - John Michael Staudenmayer, Keaton Subjeck and Fox Baldwin are the main challengers of the 74 field.
184 - PA’s own Zach Zavatsky as a Freshman looks to be the man to beat at 184 .
197 - 2 time All American Conner Hartmann is the man to beat in this field. He will be pursued by Scottie Boykin, Jared Haught, Chip Ness and Zach Bennett.
285 - The battle of Stanford heavyweights will continue as Josh Marchok and Nathan Butler are both entered. Garrett Ryan will be in the mix as well as WVU’s True Freshman Austin Myers.
