Ben Askren's One FC Fight Ends In Controversy
Ben Askren's One FC Fight Ends In Controversy
One FC Champion Ben Askren has never walked out of the cage without getting his hand raised.
Until now.
The 2 time Hodge Trophy winner for the University of Missouri at 174 pounds just had his most recent match end with a "No Contest" after his opponent Luis Santos could not continue after an eye injury.
The One Championship: Valor of Champions was taking place in Pasay Phillipines this morning when the Funk Master took the cage.
Askren was having difficulty early getting to his opponents legs and finishing. Santos connected on a few blows and on 2 occasions launched Askren to his back! The exact moment Ben finally broke through and got deep in on a double, Santos had an eye poked by Askren and told the officials he couldn't go on. The fight was ruled a no contest, much to the dismay of Ben Askren.
Here's the video of the fight:
Askren's record sits at 14-0 (1) after this match.
We reached out to Askren and asked for his post-fight thoughts:
"It was unfortunate that I trained for 8 months and flew around the globe to have the fight end like this. I knew my opponents strategy was to go hard early and then he would fade. I don't believe the eye poke was that bad and I hope I can get back in the cage with him as soon as possible."
This tweet from Askren got right to the point as well:
