FloWrestler of the Week: Sam Krivus, PA

Just call him “The Belt Collector.”

With his most recent win over Will Roark in the 138-pound FloNational finals to put a stamp on another impressively contested tournament, Sam Krivus became the first four-time FloNats All-American and first three-time champion.

With his third FloNats win, came another championship belt. Combined with his collection of Super 32 belts (three to be exact), Krivus now has a total of six between the two tournaments. After defeating Roark, Krivus said that it was his final two belts that came from each tournament that will stick with him the most because of how much hard work went into winning the championships.

His route to the FloNats stage entailed some dominating wins along with some very close wins such as his 2-0 victory over New York’s phenomenal freshman state champ #20-Frankie Gissendaner that was competitive from start to finish.

“After that first period when we were zero-zero, I was like I really need to step it up,” Krivus said about his match with Gissendaner. “He was really strong and he’s a tough kid and doesn’t really get out of position but I knew just to keep fighting and I would win.”

When it was all said and done, Krivus outscored his opponents by a combined score of 40-5. It’s that impressive title run along with his history making performance that makes him the FloWrestler of the Week.

Other FloWrestler of the Week Nominees:

                                                    Holmes’ pick: Chad Red, IN

According to his dad after his son pinned Luke Pletcher in the 126-pound final, “He’s one bad man.” And after watching him compete this weekend he’s definitely living up to his dad’s high praises. The three-time state champ nearly pinned his way through the tournament. His only regular decision came in the semifinals against Kanen Storr, who he beat, 8-6, in overtime on a gorgeous double. With four falls and a regular decision, he really is “one bad man.”

                                                Vinny’s pick: Connor Flynn, MO

Trailing late to World Champ Mason Manville, Flynn turned into Clutch Connor. The future Mountaineer scored a takedown then collected a pair of back points with eight seconds left to get the 6-4 win after being behind for the majority of the match. He ended up riding that momentum into the final where he defeated Jake Wentzel 7-6 to take home the 152-pound title.

                                              Willie’s pick: Keegan Moore, OK

Being “Bull Trained”
may be all that Moore is looking forward to after defeating Missouri’s Jaydin Clayton 10-8 in the final, but he definitely already looked like bull as he blew through the field en route to the title. With two falls in the first period to start his run which was followed by a 16-1 tech fall before capping it off with a pair of decisions to claim the belt.

                                                 CP’s pick: Kaden Gfeller, OK

Returning champ? No problem for Gfeller. Tied 1-1 with Devin Schroder of Michigan, Gfeller locks up a cradle on the edge and put a tough ride on last year’s champ to collect his first FloNats belt. As the third seed he cleared out his half of the bracket without giving up more than an escape.

                                               Bratke’s pick: Daton Fix, OK

When you see Fix clap his hands during a match you know he’s fired up and ready to go. His passion for the sport definitely came out when he did his signature clap after scrambling with returning champ Yianni Diakomihalis of New York. But the shining moment of the match came in overtime when Fix got in on a leg and fought off not one, not two, but three ankle picks by Yianni D in an attempt to defend the deep single. The OK Kid then summoned some serious man strength to lift and complete the takedown to win the title and some revenge after taking a loss to Diakomihalis in the Super 32 finals.
