Super 32: Waters, Schopp and Port Fail to Make the Finals

At the top of this stacked bracket, eventual champion and National Qualifier for Nebraska, David Klingsheim, cruised to his Super 32 Championship with three falls, a 5-2 win and two majors, one of which coming in the finals where he took out Frank Goodwin 12-0.  His closest match was against T.J. Mitchell in the quarters. Mitchell, who just transferred to Chattanooga from UVA, was a 2X Georgia State Champion and an NHSCA Senior National Champion.  He did not place in this bracket.

The Runner-Up here was Frank Goodwin from Maryland.  The future Terp was a 2X State Champion and had over 100 falls in his high school career.  Goodwin also had a fairly dominant road to the finals.  Goodwin's first match against Eric Morris of PA was his closest, winning only 2-0.  Morris, a 2X National Prep Champion and Fargo Champion, who just finished up his first season at Harvard, dropped into the wrestle-backs where he made a great run, winning six in a row, before falling to Tyler Cox in the bout to place.

Third place finisher Camden Eppert, an NCAA Qualifier for Purdue, had a good win over 4X New York State Champion Quinton Murphy to advance to the quarterfinals where he dropped his match with Edinboro’s All-American AJ Schopp.  Eppert then dropped into the wrestle-backs where he beat Tyler Cox, Alan Waters and then Shane Gentry to take home a third place finish. Gentry would continue his career at Maryland where he was an NCAA National Qualifier.

After Schopp’s win against Eppert, which advanced him into the Semis, Schopp dropped a 2-0 match to Frank Goodwin.  Dropping him down right into the consolation semi finals. Schopp lost that bout to Shane Gentry and would be put in the match for 5th place where he beat future Mizzou Tiger and 3X All-American Alan Waters 1-0 in OT.

Rounding out the placements would be a match for 7th between Mitchell Port and Tyler Cox. Wyoming All-American, Tyler Cox dropped his match against Goodwin and racked up a win over Morris in the wrestle backs before dropping to Eppert to be put in the match for 7th.  There he would face the Fighting Scot's National Finalist, Mitchell Port.  Port lost to Alan Waters in the championship bracket before falling to Gentry in the wrestle backs to be pitted against Cox for 7th.  Cox downed Port in a very high scoring match, 16-10.
