JR Worlds - Men's Freestyle Updates
It was another day filled with successes for Team USA. The US contingent sent Thomas Gilman, Aaron Pico, Gabe Dean and Adam Coon for the 4 respective weights and all wrestled in medal matches.

Thomas Gilman lost a tight semi final bout before winning a Bronze medal 11-6.  Gilman utilized great positioning, hustle and his single leg to earn the medal.  Gabe Dean fell narrowly in the quarterfinals 7-6. Gilman won his Bronze bout 11-6.

Deans opponent won his semi, pulling Dean into repechage where he won by technical fall to earn a spot in the bronze medal match.  Dean showed absolutely no signs of inexperience despite his lack of international competition.  Dean's pressure, positioning and excellent gut wrench were a big key for his success.  Dean won by injury forfeit in his final match to take Bronze.

It was a roller coaster day for Adam Coon.  Coon dominated his way to the semi finals before losing a wild match to Canada's Amar Dhesi.  Dhesi, who wrestles for Oregon State scored a very late takedown while trailing to take the match late.  Adam won his Bronze match in dominant fashion for Bronze by pinning his opponent in the first period.

Nothing came easy for Aaron Pico having faced an excellent Japanese wrestler who is ranked international on the senior leveel, Pico needed late scores to take the hotly contested bout.  Pico then rolled into the finals teching his next three opponents.  Aaron ran into an Iranian buzzsaw in the finals.  The first period was close with Pico trailing only by 1.  The second period was another story with Yazdanichirati opening up a 7 point lead before ultimately taking gold with a 9-2 final score.

All told it was an extremely successful showing for Team USA Freestyle with the men bringing home 6 medals.  The future looks bright for USA!

Day I Notes

It was a red hot start on day one of Mens Freestyle competition with the US contingent winning their first 7 bouts.  Anthony Valencia looked absotlutely monstrous before being pinned in his third match teching a European Champion in little over a minute.  Anthony was leading 6-1 before being pinned.  When his opponent lost in the semi's, Anthony was eliminated.

Jabari Moody won a pair of shoot outs early and fell in a wild semi 21-8.  Moody wrestled for Bronze but lost to a very tough Iranian 10-0.

Kyle Snyder ran into a buzz saw in the quarters against Georgii Gogaev.   Gogaev is a Cadet World Champion wish wins over Dustin Kilgore, Cam Simaz and Chris Pendleton to his credit.  Snyder fell to Gogaev 8-1 in a match that was fairly competitve but got out of hand late when Snyder had to let loose.  Snyder won his repechage match to make the Bronze medal bout where he won handily 7-1 over his Iranian opponent.

Action will begin tomorrow at 4 AM EST when we have Thomas Gilman, Aaron Pico, Gabe Dean and Adam Coon set to compete.
