WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - No. 12/15 Braden
Atwood and Danny Sabatello were victorious
as No. 21 Purdue returned to Holloway Gymnasium for the first time in two months Sunday, but 10th-ranked Nebraska proved to be too much for the Boilermakers, taking the dual 28-9. The Huskers captured bonus points in two of their eight matches en route to
their 10th dual win of the season, improving to 10-1, 4-1 Big Ten. With the loss, Purdue's record stands at 5-5, 0-5 Big Ten.
Nebraska got on the board with a 5-1 decision at 184 pounds to start the dual. Atwood evened the score at 3-3 thanks to a 3-1 decision over No. 20 Caleb Kolb at 197 pounds. After
a scoreless opening period, the redshirt junior escaped to start the second and followed with a takedown to take a 3-0 lead into the final two minutes. Kolb escaped and attempted a shot late to which Atwood thwarted to push his record to 20-6. The win was
his third over the Husker in the past two seasons and his fifth over a ranked opponent this season.
The Huskers won the next three bouts, including one of their bonus point wins with a 3:53 fall from Shawn Nagel to upset Purdue's No. 13/14 Cashé
Quiroga at 133, to take a 15-3 lead into intermission.
Sabatello brought the Boilermakers out of the break by sticking Colton McCrystal in 6:53. The 141-pounders entered the final stanza tied at 2-2, but Sabatello broke the match open
by tilting McCrystal for a three-point nearfall for a 5-2 advantage. Standing in the center of the mat with short time, Sabatello had McCrystal's left ankle held high, forcing the Husker to hop around and attempt to elude an impeding trip. Sabatello found
his opportunity and swept McCrystal's right foot from under him and dropped him straight to his back for his first career fall. The redshirt sophomore who hails from Long Grove, Ill., improves to 17-8.
Back-to-back 11-4 decisions were recorded by No. 3/5 Jake Sueflohn and top-ranked James Green at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively, for Nebraska. The dual concluded with the Huskers'
second win with bonus points, a 12-3 major decision by fourth-ranked Robert Kokesh at 174.
Sunday's Big Ten Digital Network broadcast of the dual will air on the Big Ten Network Tuesday at 10 .m. ET.
Purdue will make the trip south on I-65 Friday to take on intrastate rival Indiana at 7 p.m. It will be the 99th all-time meeting and the Boilermakers will be seeking their fourth
straight dual win over the Hoosiers. The Big Ten Digital Network will stream the dual live from University Gym in Bloomington.
