Series History
• Friday’s dual is the 46th all-time meeting between Purdue and Iowa, with the Hawkeyes leading the series 38-4-3. The two programs first met in 1915 in Iowa City, Iowa, where the Hawkeyes won 18-10. Purdue’s last win in the series came on Feb. 25, 1961, when the Boilermakers defeated Iowa on its home mat 23-9. The dual at Bradley-Bourbonnais High School marks the ninth time Purdue and Iowa have met on a neutral mat and the third time since 2010.

• Last season in Iowa City, the fifth-ranked Hawkeyes won seven of 10 weights en route to a 29-9 win over No. 21 Purdue, 29-9. Camden Eppert (125), Ivan Lopouchanski (149) and Braden Atwood (197) notched wins for the Boilermakers. Of those three, Atwood is the only one with a possible rematch in No. 11 Nathan Burak. Atwood won by decision, 4-1, a year ago.

Scouting the Hawkeyes
• Sunday’s dual is the first Big Ten Conference dual of the season for Iowa. Head coach Tom Brands is 7-0 in conference openers.

• Iowa is coming off of a record-setting performance at the Midlands Championships. Powered behind three individual titlists (Thomas Gilman - 125; Derek St. John - 157; and Mike Evans - 174) the Hawkeyes broke their own tournament record with 187.5 points scored. Iowa placed 14 wrestlers in the top eight, including 10 inside the top three.

• A pair of Hawkeyes boast an unblemished record in Cory Clark (12-0) and Derek St. John (17-0). Clark lost to Jarrod Garnett in the Midlands semifinals, but Garnett was wrestling as a member of the Bison Wrestling Club and the match does not count toward Clark’s college record. St. John has won 24 straight matches dating back to a 5-4 loss to Nebraska’s James Green in the Big Ten Championships semifinals. St. John is the defending 157-pound national champion.

• Big Ten Conference action continues for Purdue, traveling to No. 19 Michigan on Jan. 10 and top-ranked Penn State on Jan. 12.

Last Time Out: Atwood Places Second at Midlands Championships
• Maryland’s second-seeded Christian Boley’s five-point move in the second period proved to be too much for Purdue’s fourth-seeded Braden Atwood to overcome in a 9-5 decision for the 197-pound title at the 51st Ken Kraft Midlands Championships Monday in Welsh-Ryan Arena. Purdue finished 13th in the team standings with 45.5 points.

• Atwood earned a spot on podium for the second time in his career and he is just the fourth Boilermaker to become a two-time placewinner at the event after a fourth-place finish at 184 pounds as a redshirt freshman.

• Four other Boilermakers, Cashé Quiroga (133), Danny Sabatello (141), Alex Griffin (149) and Patrick Kissel (174), were in action during the third session, but all four came up one win shy of a podium finish.

• Purdue wrestlers combined for a 27-26 record at Midlands, with eight bonus point victories (4 Falls, 3 MD, 1 TF).
