In his first international tournament since competing at JR World's in Greco back in 2008, Kyle Dake posted two big wins but ultimately fell short of the Gold.

Competing in the final Golden Grand Prix event of the calendar year, Aliev Memorial in Baku, Azerbaijan, Dake and Jimmy Kennedy both reached Bronze medal matches.

With a tough draw, Dake (74KG) shot out of the gates. He opened with a 7-1 over Ali Shabanov (BLR), who won Bronze in this year's World's, and who might be remembered for repeatedly cheapshotting Jordan Burrough's in the World semi's.

The second round offered Dake Denis Tsargush (RUS), a two-time World Champion and Bronze medalist in the London Olympics. Dake took care of Tsargush with a score of 10-5.

It would be another Russian opponent for Dake in the semifinals. Once again illustrating Russian depth, Gadzhi Gadzhiev, who has no World level medals, stopped Dake's run for the Gold with a 7-1 decision.

In the Bronze medal match, Dake fell to Azerbaijani, Ashraf Aliev, who was 8th in London.

Dake had his right hand wrapped and used it sparingly. He opened scoring with a pushout to lead 1-0 at the break.

Aliev was awarded a point when Dake couldn't score while on the shot clock early in the second. At the 5:00 mark, Dake used a sweet little shuck to go up 3-1. Thirty seconds later, Aliev got to a leg attack to make it 3-3 for the final score.

Jimmy Kennedy (60KG) dropped his first bout but was drawn back in to repechage. He won his next bout to reach the Bronze medal match where he dominated Umud Mammadov of the host country, 6-1.

Other U.S. men's FS results: Angel Escobedo (55KG, 1-1), Kellen Russell (66KG, 1-1), Keith Gavin (4KG, 1-2), Clayton Foster (84KG, 1-1), and Wynn Michalak (96KG, 0-1).

Franklin Gomez, an NCAA Champion for Michigan State and an Olympian at 60KG, wrestled up at 66KG and went 0-1 for Puerto Rico.

On Saturday, the U.S. Women fared much better with a Champ (Elena Pirozkhova, 67KG) leading three other American medalists: Victoria Anthony (Silver, 48KG), and Helen Maroulis (Bronze, 55KG), Veronica Carlson (Bronze, 67KG)

The U.S. sent just two representatives to Baku in Greco. Joe Betterman placed 5th at 60KG, while Spenser Mango went 1-2 at 55KG.

Medal winners at the Aliev received prizes of $10,000 (Gold), $5,000 (Silver), and $2,000 (Bronze) U.S. dollars.
