Lehigh in Japan - Final Day Blog
Three Lehigh University wrestlers: Mitch Minotti, Laike Gardner and Mason Beckman, are in Ajinmoto learning and working out at Japan's National Training Center. They will be providing a daily blog to FLO documenting their trip and experiences. It all began from JFK airport in New York to Seattle to Tokyo-Haneda Airport.
August 17th - Final Day in Japan (by Mitch)
Goodbye Japan.
Today we only had a run in the morning and this will be our final full day overseas, and for Laike, Mason and I it is a bittersweet feeling. This trip has been an experience of a lifetime which we will never forget.
We want to thank the LVAC for making this wonderful experience a reality. In addition, it pains us to say but we also want to thank John Hughes for creating this opportunity for us through his long string of connections. Although we were left in the dark about many of the details of this trip, his plans for us materialized perfectly and we were not only taken care of but also treated with an immense amount of respect from everyone we met during this journey.
We appreciate everyone who has followed us through the blog during our time here in Japan, and your support has not gone unnoticed. It has been shocking to believe our blog has received so much praise as we have almost hit 12000 views! We of course have stayed somewhat reserved about these numbers since I’m sure at least half of the views are from our parents and grandparents who for the past 10 days have probably lived with a computer by their side.
We have learned a lot throughout our time here in which will definitely improve us as wrestlers as well as people. Although we were only exposed to a small portion of technique, through wrestling with these elite athletes we have picked up several details in which we were unaware.
We have learned much about ourselves during this adventure and grew closer as we relied on each other for communication as well as motivation when one was in lack. The most valuable thing we have been educated on is the mentality that you need to succeed and we believe our mental aspect for training has grown tremendously. We have realized that are bodies can be pushed as far as we allow them to be in our minds. Battling through the soreness and pains we pressed on through the workouts during the camp despite our discomfort.
Again we thank everybody for there support! This is Laike and I signing off, as we will be leaving the facility today at 4:30 to board the train and begin our day of travel.
See everyone back in the states!
