PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel wrestling team gathered on Thursday night for their annual end-of-the-year banquet, honoring their team award winners and recognizing the senior class.

Senior Frank Cimato and redshirt junior Brandon Palik were both awarded the F.C. Walton Â’56 Outstanding Wrestler Award for their performance this season. Cimato also earned the award for Most Wins, with 31 on the season, including four top-five finishes in tournament competition. Cimato finished out his career with a second place finish at the CAA Championships and advanced to NCAA Championship competition.

 

Palik, who also advanced to NCAAs after earning his first CAA title, was recognized with junior Austin Sommer and redshirt sophomore Bryan Sternlieb for the teamÂ’s Most Pins Award. The trio tied for six win-by-falls on the season.

 

The Most Improved Wrestler Award went to Sternlieb, who compiled 18 wins this season including one tech fall and three major decisions. Sternlieb also earned a fourth place finish in the Road Runner Open early in the season.

 

Redshirt junior Kevin Matyas earned the teamÂ’s Ironman Award, while freshman Matt Cimato was recognized as Most Dedicated Redshirt and redshirt sophomore Noel Blanco received the teamÂ’s Eleventh Wrestler Award.

The Jack Childs “I Am A Dragon” Award went to redshirt sophomore Garth Mahosky and the Doug Fry Alumni Award for character, sportsmanship, and contribution to Drexel Wrestling was given to senior Charles Aungst.

 

Finally, Clayton Lutzow earned the team's Academic Award. Lutzow, a freshman chemical engineering major, boasts a 3.87 grade point average.
