Four OSU Wrestlers Awarded Spots on Pac-12 All-Academic Teams for 2012-13 Season
Thomas and Van Anrooy earn First-Team honors, while Elder and Engdahl are given a spot on the conference’s Second Team
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – The First and Second All-Academic Wrestling teams have been announced by the Pac-12 Conference and a total of four Oregon State student-athletes can be found among the conference’s best.
Redshirt freshman Seth Thomas and redshirt freshman Drew Van Anrooy were given slots on the All-Academic First Team, while sophomores Alex Elder and Brian Engdahl wound up with Second Team Honors.
Thomas, a 165 pound, Biology major and Van Anrooy, a 133 pound Bio-Engineering major each earned 3.67 grade point averages during the season gone by, good enough for a tie for the third highest GPA on the conference’s First Team.
Elder, who is a 165-pounder and currently undecided on a major, worked toward a 3.35 GPA, which was the second highest on the Second Team, while Engdahl, at 184 lbs., is a food science major who compiled a 3.25 mark this past season.
Oregon State is one of only three schools with representatives on both teams and is tied for second with CSU Bakersfield for the most representatives on either team.
To be eligible for selection to the Pac-12’s All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and be a significant contributor, wrestling in at least half of all dual meets, or competing in most open tournaments
throughout the year.
