Quartet of Hoosiers Win at Purdue
Quartet of Hoosiers Win at Purdue BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana (6-9) won four of eights bouts wrestled at #17 Purdue (14-5) Monday night on the Big Ten Network. The Hoosiers dropped the team dual, however, 28-13, with a pair of forfeits in the line-up due to sickness and injury.

The night started at 184 pounds and a tally in the win column for the Cream and Crimson. True sophomore Luke Sheridan captured his fourth consecutive Big Ten win and second over a nationally-ranked opponent. The California native hit a headlock in the opening minute that included two near-fall points before being reversed. He then added an escape to lead 5-2 entering the second stanza. Sheridan fended off several deep shots from #25 Patrick Kissel in the final two periods and scrambled his way to a 7-6 decision. His escape with 14 seconds remaining proved to be the difference.

While SheridanÂ’s triumph came at the expense of a nationally-ranked Boilermaker, all three of IndianaÂ’s ranked grapplers arose victorious. The first was heavyweight Adam Chalfant, slotted 12th nationally at 285 pounds. Chalfant tallied four takedowns en route to his third straight win, a 10-4 decision over Alex White.

Redshirt sophomore Taylor Walsh kept his red-hot momentum chugging with an 8-0 major decision over 2012 NCAA qualifier Tommy Churchard. A granby roll from 10th-ranked Walsh broke a scoreless tie early in the second period. He would go on to add a pair of takedowns, two near-fall points and over two minutes of riding time advantage to accrue the eight-point blanking.

It was hard to tell redshirt junior Ryan LeBlanc had been out of action for nearly four weeks when his seamless shot resulted in a takedown just 17 seconds into his first bout back on the mat. It only took seven more ticks of the clock for LeBlanc to turn Pat Robinson for three near-fall points and a 5-0 edge less than 30 seconds into the match. His scoring flurry slowed a little from there in what would eventually be a 10-3 decision for the 15th-ranked 165-pounder in the country.
