Hoosiers Drop Road Match at #20 Wisconsin
Hoosiers Drop Road Match at #20 Wisconsin
Duca got the night started with a trio of takedowns on WisconsinÂ’s Matt Cavallaris en route to his 7-3 triumph at 125 pounds. His ninth W of the season gave IU an early 3-0 advantage on the team scoreboard.
A trio of reserves filled in for injured Hoosiers in the next three bouts, each match resulting in UW team points.
Walsh, ranked ninth nationally at 157 pounds, ended the slide with his 8-6 decision over Kalvin York. In the first of what would eventually be three bouts being decided in the final 30 seconds, Walsh nailed a late takedown on the edge of the circle to secure his 8-6 winner. The redshirt sophomore improves to 24-6 overall, 11-1 in duals and 3-1 during the Big Ten season.
It was WisconsinÂ’s turn to snare a late-match victory in the subsequent bout as Frank CousinsÂ’ takedown with under 30 ticks remaining handed Ryan Konz a 4-3 defeat. Eleventh-ranked Ryan LeBlanc (165 lbs.) was also forced to sit out, adding to IUÂ’s injury-plagued line-up.
Luke Sheridan posted a 2-0 decision at 184 pounds on the back of an impressive two-minute ride for the entire third period. After a scoreless opening frame, Sheridan picked up a quick escape after starting the second stanza from the bottom position. He then continually slipped in the legs during his final period ride, often times flattening Ben Cox to the mat for much of the win-clinching ride.
The third bout to play out in the last 30 seconds came at heavyweight. #12 Adam ChalfantÂ’s takedown had earned him a 3-2 lead with less than a half minute remaining, but #9 Connor Medberry then executed a four-point shot bringing Chalfant to his back and capturing a 6-3 final decision.
