Winning the Little Battles 101: Destroying the Tripod
Winning the Little Battles 101: Destroying the Tripod

If you're wondering why Kyle Dake is so beastacious on top, wonder no longer. Kid Dynamite gets to work out with this guy everyday: JEREMY SPATES. Spates is an animal on the mat, his tricks from top are more than impressive. Spates was an All-American at the University of Missouri, and he has already given Tech Wave two other awesome series: his crab ride series and his legs series. This new series, though, might be the best. Here, Spates shows how to break the opponent back down to the mat after the opponent has gotten to the tripod.
Why is this big? BECAUSE EVERYBODY IS HITTING THE TRIPOD NOW...and not everyone knows how to counter it.
How to Destroy the Tripod
Hooking the Back Ankle
Spates shows that when your opponent tripods, stay behind the arms, then use your back foot to lace his leg and pull it backwards. Push his elbow forward while doing so and then as soon as he hits the mat, chop the arm and cross wrist.
Spiral Ride and Step on His Toe
When you opponent is in the tripod, spiral ride him and then step on his toe with your forward. Run him forward and then as soon as he hits the mat go to the inside wrist and break him down with your forward pressure.
Take Out His Knee
Spates shows hot to take out the opponent's knee when he's in his tripod. This move is very simple. You essentially just jam you back knee into the back of his knee on the side you are riding. Your opponent will often landing back on all fours so quickly go to your arm chop and get the cross wrist.
