Minnesota Looks Ahead to Rivalry Dual against Iowa

Minnesota Wrestling is looking ahead to this seasonÂ’s dual match against Big Ten foe Iowa on Jan. 26 at 3 p.m. in Williams Arena. This is by far the biggest event of the wrestling season with the largest, loudest crowd there in support of the Gopher grapplers.

As you are aware, the Minnesota/Iowa rivalry is huge for the schools, but it is an even bigger point of pride among the wrestling programs. Both sides are consistently considered powerhouses in the conference and are continually battling for top-dog prowess. The winner of the regular season match usually goes on to be the conferenceÂ’s boldest contender to win the Big Ten Conference title, National Duals title, and/or the NCAA Team Championship.

Between the teamÂ’s Iowa connections and the probable match-ups and re-matches that could take place at the event, there are also a lot of feature opportunities to be explored. Currently, Minnesota is ranked as the No. 3 program in the nation with Iowa on its heels at No. 4. Both the Gophers and the Hawkeyes boast nine wrestlers individually ranked among the nationÂ’s best.

The University of Minnesota would love your help getting the word out about this huge rivalry. If you are interested in setting up a television, radio, or print interview with one of the coaches or student-athletes, please contact Kate Wadman through email (wadma005@umn.edu) or by phone (Office: 612.624.4345 or Cell: 612.203.3028).
