OSU Wrestlers Gear up for Intrasquad Meet and End of Pre-Season
Wrestlers begin daily practice schedule in anticipation of Intrasquad meet, Nov. 7
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State wrestling team is in its final stages of preparation for
the 2012-13 regular season as members will begin practicing on a daily basis this week. The Beavers who are ranked preseason No. 9 by D1 College Wrestling were back in the Dale Thomas Wrestling Room Monday, after a week of individual workouts.
Head Coach Jim Zalesky and his staff were busy working with the student-athletes so they will be ready to wrestle in front of fans for two upcoming events. Those include the
final open practice of the preseason, scheduled for this Saturday, Nov. 3, as well as the annual Intrasquad meet on Nov. 7.
“We’re working out every day, usually once in the morning as individuals and them coming in during the afternoon and having a good team workout,” Zalesky said.
The defending Pac-12 Champions had been hitting the mats just three days a week since official practices began back on Oct., 10. The OSU coaching staff see these last two
weeks of preseason as a chance to ready its team for competition.
“They are getting into competition mode now and for us the intensity usually picks up,” Zalesky explained. “Intrasquad is a chance to make an impression on the coaches and
to solidify your spot because spots are all open and no one is guaranteed one right now.”
The Beavers’ final open public practice is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. inside the Dale Thomas Wrestling Room. The practice will be held 3.5 hours before OSU’s
home football game with Arizona State.
Zalesky’s squad then hosts its annual intrasquad meet on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. inside Gill Coliseum, before opening up the regular season at the Mike Clock Open in Forrest
Grove, Ore., Nov. 11.
