Minnesota received their first verbal of the new recruiting season Wednesday when Gopher legacy Jake Short announced he's headed to the in-state powerhouse.

Short is the #2 ranked 145lber in the country. Heading into his Sr. campaigned he's amassed an impressive resume that includes three state titles, two trips to Fargo finals, and a Cheesehead title.

He placed 3rd at FloNationals this April. We had a chance to ask Jake about his big de
cision.

WS: Why did you choose Minnesota?

JS: I chose Minnesota because it was like another family to me. I felt at home there. The guys are great and their intensity and pace is unreal. I can't wait to start training with these guys and try to help get Minnesota to become national champions.

WS: What other schools were you considering?

JS: I was also looking at Iowa and Nebraska.

WS: What is your relationship like with the coaches and wrestlers there?

JS: The coaches feel like they have known me forever and aren't afraid to tell me if I'm doing something wrong so we can fix that and I know they want what I want: national championships for not just my team but myself as well.

WS: What weight do you see yourself wrestling in college?

JS: The weight I see myself at is 149 pounds.

WS: What might you major in?

JS: Maybe agricultural business; some sort of business degree.

WS: Add anything else you'd like to say.

JS: I can't wait to wear the maroon and gold thanks.
