Pendleton Chosen For Leadership Academy
UW assistant wrestling coach heads to coaching clinic
LARAMIE, Wyo. (July 11, 2012) University of Wyoming assistant wrestling coach Chris Pendleton was one of a handful of coaches chosen to attend a coaching leadership academy
next month, hosted by a national wrestling organization.
The National Wrestling Coaches Association announced Monday that Pendleton, along with 44 other coaches representing every collegiate division, would receive a fully funded
trip including airfare, lodging, meals and convention registration fees for the fourth annual NWCA Coaching Leadership Academy. The event takes place Aug. 1 and 2 in Fort Lauderdale,
Fla.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to attend the NWCA Coaching Leadership Academy,” said Pendleton, who has been an assistant at UW since 2010. “It gives me a chance to grow as both
a person and a coach. I can help grow Wyoming wrestling, and promote the sport at the university and in the community.”
The NWCA hosts
the Academy to utilize peer group discussion among college coaches, athletic administrators, and CEOs to develop “best practices” for protecting and strengthening intercollegiate wrestling
programs through a challenging economy. The NWCA also wants to help coaches more effectively align their programs with educational values.
Nationally renowned coaching development expert, Dr. Dan Gould from Michigan State University along with his staff, will facilitate
these discussions.
The NWCA is able to cover the costs for all participants due to the generosity of several wrestling benefactors. The 2012 NWCA Convention
for all college coaches will be Aug. 2-5 in Fort Lauderdale.
