Just a week into the recruiting season, the Michigan Wolverines andthe revamped wrestling coaching staff have added one of the nation's top prospects.

On Saturday, Glenbard North (IL) product, Brian Murphy announced he had pledged to the Michigan.

Murphy has been a middle weight his entire high school career and has enjoyed incredible success both in-state and nationally. Starting at 130lbs as a freshman, 140 as a sophomore and 152 this past year, Murphy's posted state results of 3-2-2, and won two Dvorak Titles.

At Fargo, he won a Cadet National Title in 2010 and finished Runner-Up in Juniors last summer.

Currently ranked 3rd in the country at 152lbs, Murphy will be listed as one of the Top 20 recruits in the country Flo's forthcoming senior class evaluations.

We had the opportunity to ask Brian about his decision.

WS: Why did you choose Michigan?
BM: I chose Michigan for a number of reasons. 1 - Academically, I feel the school will challenge me and help me accomplish my goals. 2 - The partners - Ben Whitford, Josh Churella, Jimmy Kennedy, Kellen Russell plus a number of other current athletes. will help me grow as a wrestler. 3 - The facilities, both academic and wrestling are world class.

WS: What other schools were you considering?
BM: The other schools I was considering were Illinois and Virginia. I really enjoyed Coach Garland at Virginia - great guy. Illinois was right there with Michigan. Coach Heffernan is an awesome person and it was a tough decision as the Illini are going to be a tough team.

WS: What weight do you see yourself wrestling in college?
BM: I'm thinking I'll be a157lber.

WS: What might you major in?
BM: Major – Undecided

WS: What are your college goals?
BM: Win national championships! Both individually and as a team.

WS: Add anything else you'd like to say.
BM: I'm really excited about Michigan Wrestling. The class they brought in last year was really strong. I'm sure this year's class will be just as tough. Having all of the senior level wrestlers in the room will be awesome to learn from. Go Blue!

Congratulations to the Murphy Family, and the Glenbard North and Michigan wrestling communities!
