Beavers Trek To
Iowa> Oregon State visits Ames, Iowa to participate in the
National Duals. The regional is hosted by Iowa State. OSU has a bye in the
first round and will initially compete at 11 a.m. PT (1 p.m. in Iowa) against
an opponent to be determined.

Duals Format>
OSU, as the No. 2 seed, gets a bye in the first round and will compete in the
semifinals. The Beavers will compete against the winner of No. 3 Iowa State and
No. 6 Wisconsin. Iowa is the No. 1 seed and goes against either No. 4 Virginia
Tech or No. 5 Northern Iowa. The winners of the semifinals compete in the
finals at 1 p.m. PT to determine who advances to the final four the following
week.
All-Time>
These are all-time records against possible opponents in Iowa: 0-1 vs. Virginia
Tech, 3-4 vs. Wisconsin, 1-13 vs. Iowa State, 6-1 vs. Northern Iowa and 1-5 vs.
Iowa. The Beavers competed against both Wisconsin and Iowa State during the 2008-09
season, losing to both.

Based on Intermat’s rankings, Mike Mangrum (4th/141), Scott Sakaguchi
(16th/149), Taylor Meeks (17th/197) and Clayton Jack (5th/HWT) are the highest
ranked wrestlers in their respective weight classes at the Ames Regional. RJ
Pena (18th/157) is second in his weight class.
Jack Going Up The
Ranks> Clayton Jack’s next win will be the 113th of his
career and will move him into a tie for 12th in team history. He needs six to
get to 118 and tie Oscar Wood for 10th. Jack is the fourth-winningest
heavyweight in school history behind No. 1 Howard Harris (169 wins), No. 2
Larry Bielenberg (165) and No. 3 Jim Baumgardner (155).
Pena Pins> RJ
Pena needs one pin to tie Marty Ryan (1978) for the most in a single-season by
a sophomore with 19. He’s already 11th in OSU overall history with 31 for
a career.
One Win> One
team victory by the Beavers would give them 10 on the season, putting the team
in double figure victories for 14 consecutive seasons.
National
Leaders>
Jack and Mangrum are tied for eighth nationally with 30 wins. Pena is second
with 18 pins while Jack is tied for sixth with 13. OSU, as a team, is tied for
No. 1 with 100 pins. OSU is tied with Northern Iowa while Iowa is third with
98.
