The No. 7 American University wrestling team will make the short trip to College Park, Md., to take on No. 20 Maryland in a dual meet on Friday, December 2 at 7 p.m.
This week, American moved up one spot to No. 7 in the InterMat national tournament strength rankings as heavyweight Ryan Flores jumped to the No. 1 wrestler in the country at the weight class. AU's other three nationally-ranked wrestlers -- No. 4 Ganbayar Sanjaa at 157 lbs., No. 8 Daniel Mitchell at 197 lbs., and No. 9 Matt Mariacher at 141 lbs. -- remained unchanged from last week's poll.
Last weekend, the Eagles participated in the Northeast Duals where both Flores and Sanjaa went 3-0 on the day. Flores recorded three falls while Sanjaa earned a fall and a major decision. Mariacher won two of three matches with a tech fall and major decision while Kevin Tao picked up a pair of major decisions. Phillip Barreiro and Thomas Williams each recorded two victories on the day for the Eagles.
Maryland posted three victories last weekend in the Northeast Duals,
defeating Central Michigan, Bucknell, and Northern Iowa. The Terrapins
come into Friday with five ranked wrestlers, led by No. 2 Josh Asper at
165 lbs. Heavyweight Spencer Myers is ranked No. 10, while No. 16 Kyle
John (157 lbs.), No. 17 Jimmy Sheptock (174 lbs.), and No. 20 Christian
Boley (197 lbs.) round out Maryland's ranked individuals. Â
