There's been a lot of attention on Bo Bassett lately, and for good reason. The Virginia Tech freshman is still a few weeks from his first collegiate match in a Hokie singlet, but he's already amassed a trophy case full of accolades, and nothing attracts a wrestling crowd like winning copious amounts of medals.
Bassett shot to the top of the high school recruiting lists thanks to his record-setting high school career, which included multiple wins at Who's Number One and four straight Super 32 belts. Bassett also backed up his domestic accomplishments by bringing home a host of international medals while representing Team USA.
The Pennsylvania native is undefeated in age-level Pan-American competition, hauling in four gold medals. He also won U17 gold at 45 kg in men's freestyle in 2021, followed by U20 bronze in 2024 and gold in 2026, both at 65 kg.
That kind of winning attracts a crowd, and Bassett has arguably attracted one of the biggest crowds in the wrestling community. Naturally, many fans are wondering when they'll be able to see him compete next. Luckily for them, Bo is slated for several major events in the coming weeks.
U23 World Championships
Las Vegas, Nevada - Oct 17-18 - 65 kg Men's Freestyle
The first challenge in Bo's gauntlet (not counting his triumphs at the U.S. Open, Final X and U20 World Championships, which are already in the bag) is in Vegas at the U23 Worlds, which have already begun (click here to watch live!)
The good news is that if you're reading this article in a timely manner, you can still set a reminder to watch Bo compete at the Thomas & Mack Center (if you haven't already done so). And because the U23 Worlds are mercifully on U.S. soil this year, you won't have to pull an all-nighter or wake up in the wee hours to see his first-round bout.
Saturday, October 17
- 1:30–5:30 PM: Qualification rounds through quarterfinals
- 7:45–8:45 PM: Semifinals
Sunday, October 18
- 1:30–3:30 PM: Repechage
- 4:00–6:30 PM: Medal matches and award ceremonies
Draws aren't out for men's freestyle as of publication, but it's a safe bet Bassett will face a tough road if he wants to win a second age-level world gold medal in 2026.
Chief among Bassett's rivals in Las Vegas is Eldar Akhmadudinov of Russia, who is currently ranked #5 in the world thanks to his impressive performance at the Russian Nationals.
Senior World Championships
Astana, Kazakhstan - Oct 29-30 - 65 kg Men's Freestyle
Real Woods won bronze for Team USA at the 2025 World Championships, which meant Bo's path to the senior team went through Woods. Bo earned the right to challenge Woods for the spot by winning the 2026 U.S. Open, then claimed the spot on the senior team by beating Woods in two straight matches in their best-of-three Final X series.
Now Bassett faces an even tougher challenge. He'll have to travel to Astana, Kazakhstan, on a journey of more than 20 hours, acclimate to the Central Asian time zone and battle it out in one of the deepest weight classes in the world.
Thursday, October 29
- 1:30–5:30 AM: Qualification rounds through quarterfinals
- 7:30–8:30 AM: Semifinals
Friday, October 30
- 1:30–5:30 AM: Repechage
- 9:00–11:00 AM: Medal matches and award ceremonies
Looming large in the 65 kg bracket is Rahman Amouzad, the two-time world gold medalist and Paris Olympic silver medalist from Iran. Besides Amouzad, who is ranked #1 in the world, Bo will have to contend with medal threats from India, Russia, Armenia, Bulgaria, Tajikistan and more.
The hype surrounding Bo will be considerable, but he'll face the fiercest competition of his young career.
Virginia Tech at Lehigh
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania - 141 pounds
Bassett won't have much time to transition from freestyle to folkstyle, as he'll land back in the United States just as the NCAA schedule picks up. Virginia Tech will be at the Southeast Open in Salem, Virginia, on November 1, but Bassett will not be back in time for that event. However, the Virginia Tech and Lehigh coaching staffs made the effort to get this dual meet on their respective schedules.
Friday, November 6 - 7:00 PM
The first dual of the season for both squads could feature one of the marquee matchups of the season. Luke Stanich, Lehigh's two-time All-American from New Jersey, was the last person to defeat Bassett domestically in freestyle, and he did it three times in 2025: once at the U.S. Open and twice at the U20 World Team Trials.
Stanich went on to win a U20 world gold medal in 2025, then reached the podium for the Mountain Hawks, placing third at 141 pounds at the 2026 NCAAs.
Now Bassett gets a crack at Stanich on Stanich's home turf. Expect a packed crowd in Bethlehem, Pa., for this early-season tilt.
PRTC Keystone Classic
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Virginia Tech has this event on its schedule for the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and this year's Keystone Classic is shaping up to have one of the deepest fields in years. #3 Nebraska and #10 Missouri join #5 Virginia Tech, along with Penn and eight other D1 teams.
Sunday, November 22
There's no guarantee Bassett will compete, especially given his already busy schedule, but if he does wrestle at the Palestra, he could see #11 Zan Fugitt of Missouri, a 2025 All-American, and #21 Evan Mougalian of Penn.
National Duals Invitational presented by Paycom
Tulsa, Oklahoma
The massive dual-meet tournament is back with an even bigger prize pool. Last season's inaugural event set the bar for in-season tournaments. The 2026 edition is shaping up to be even more electric, with more than $1.2 million up for grabs for the participating teams.
Saturday & Sunday, December 12-13
You can bet your bottom dollar that if Bo is healthy, he will be in the Tech lineup in Tulsa. The Hokies are going to need him if they want to win the $250,000 grand prize, which they most assuredly do.
Other heavy hitters headed to the BOK Center include #2 Oklahoma State, #6 Stanford, #7 Ohio State, #8 Minnesota, #10 Missouri, #11 Wyoming, #13 Arizona State, #15 Iowa State and more. Virginia Tech and the other 15 invitees will have to navigate a bracket in which every team that finishes in the top eight will wrestle four matches over two days.
Virginia Tech also has first-semester duals against The Citadel, Penn and App State, all before a scheduled trip to Chattanooga for the Southern Scuffle right after the new year.
You can find Virginia Tech's schedule, including opportunities to watch Bo in a Hokie singlet, below.
