The latest episode of FloWrestling Radio Live focused on two of the biggest storylines in wrestling: Gable Steveson's first UFC loss and the highly anticipated Final X Special Wrestle-Off between Bo Bassett and Real Woods.

Christian Pyles, Jon Kozak and JD Rader spent much of Episode 1,264 discussing Steveson's future in mixed martial arts following his loss at UFC 331 this past weekend before turning their attention to the upcoming Bassett-Woods showdown. The crew also recapped key results from RAF Miami and answered questions from listeners.

FRL Debates What Comes Next For Gable Steveson

The show opened with an emotional discussion about Steveson's first UFC defeat and what it means for one of the most accomplished wrestlers of his generation.

Pyles admitted the result was difficult to watch.

"I was unbelievably sad and just upset, honestly," Pyles said. "I wanted Gable to win, and I really want him to be good at this."

The crew discussed the challenges wrestlers face when transitioning to MMA, noting that even elite competitors often require years to develop striking, cage awareness and defensive skills at the highest level.

While some fans have questioned Steveson's approach, Kozak argued that the Olympic gold medalist should continue to rely on the skill that made him famous.

"Be a wrestler. Go take these guys down," Kozak said.

The hosts also pointed out that many fans underestimate the amount of time required to become an elite MMA fighter.

"They forget there was a lifetime of work behind that," Pyles said while discussing athletes who appear to find immediate success in new sports.

Despite the loss, the crew emphasized that Steveson remains one of the most gifted athletes in combat sports and that a setback at heavyweight does not necessarily derail future championship aspirations.

Bo Bassett vs Real Woods Finally Arrives

After months of anticipation, Bassett and Woods are finally set to meet in a Final X Special Wrestle-Off later this week.

The FRL crew spent considerable time breaking down the matchup, with Pyles arguing that Woods may be one of the toughest stylistic challenges Bassett has faced in freestyle wrestling.

"Real Woods is probably the favorite," Pyles said.

The discussion centered on Woods' ability to score in par terre positions, particularly with his gut wrench, and how those skills could create problems for Bassett.

The hosts noted that some of the positions where Bassett has surrendered points in recent freestyle matches happen to be areas where Woods excels.

At the same time, the crew emphasized that Bassett's offense is unlike almost anyone else's in the sport.

According to the hosts, Bassett has the ability to generate points in bunches and can turn a close match into a lopsided score in a matter of seconds.

Why The Matchup Is So Difficult To Predict

One of the most interesting debates on the show centered on how difficult the Bassett-Woods series is to forecast.

Pyles explained that both wrestlers possess skill sets capable of producing dominant victories.

"I would not be surprised if Bo Bassett techs Real Woods. I would not be surprised if Real Woods techs Bo Bassett. That is on the table," Pyles said.

The crew pointed to Woods' ability to build early leads and capitalize from top position, while Bassett's reputation for late-match scoring flurries makes him dangerous regardless of the score.

"For Bo it's generally not a matter of if, but when," Pyles said while discussing Bassett's tendency to find big scoring sequences.

Because both wrestlers are capable of generating offense in multiple ways, the hosts agreed that the opening exchanges and par terre positions could ultimately determine the outcome.

RAF Miami Provides More Talking Points

The show also included a recap of RAF Miami, which took place over the weekend.

The crew discussed several notable performances from the event and what the results could mean moving forward as Real American Freestyle continues to establish itself on the wrestling calendar.

With RAF events, Final X wrestle-offs and Who's Number One all taking place in the coming weeks, the hosts noted that the wrestling world is entering one of its busiest stretches of the year.
