1st period: We've made it to the main event! A long day with a lot of awesome wrestling is coming to an end. I can't thank everyone who was involved enough. To the wrestlers, coaches, parents, production staff, Oklahoma State staff, everyone and of course, the most important people involved, the fans. Miller runs out to Enter Sandman by Metallica, fittingly as he'll be going to Virginia Tech next year. Howard is uncommitted, and I didn't catch his walk out song. A deliberate first two minutes. The tactical side of wrestling with not a lot of action but a lot of probing of defenses, looking for weaknesses to exploit. Neither wrestler finds one in the first period and we go to the first break 0-0. 

2nd period: Miller chooses bottom. He hits a beautiful switch at the edge of the mat. You don't see enough switches these day, I say in my most old man voice. Howard escapes to make it 3-1. Then Miller hits one of his signature ankle pick (it's good to have a signature move while still in high school) and Howard goes to the mat. Miller collects three and then pounces to keep Howard on his back. Miller will get a full complement of back points to run the score to 9-2, thanks to a reversal, takedown, and four nearfall. He just needs a one point move to hit for the cycle. It stays 9-2 after 2 periods. 

3rd period: Howard chooses bottom. A nice mat return will run riding time up over a minute, but eventually Howard escapes to make it 9-3. Howard never stops attacking, but Miller defends. Riding time now locked up, which would worth one point. Do we see MIller 'hit for the cycle'? We do! Melvin Miller defends his #1 ranking and defeats Cam Howard 10-3! 

Is this the first 'hitting of the cyle' i.e. a 1 point move (riding time), a 2 point move (reversal), a 3 point move (takedown) and a 4 point move (nearfall) at Who's Number One? Either way, please use that phrase as much as you can and credit me when possible.

126: #1 Sammy Sanchez, CA defeats #2 Landon Sidun, PA, 2-2 (tiebreaking rideouts)

1st period: It's out penultimate bout of the day! Time flies when you're having fun, watching the premier high school wrestling event! Sidun is the fourth and final future Penn Stater we'll see today. Sanchez is uncommitted. A nice flurries to begin the bout, no scores after 30 seconds. We make it to the midway point and still no scores. Sidun has Sanchez in a front head lock in short offense but action is stalemated with 54 seconds on the clock. The action continues but the scores remain on ice. The period ends 0-0. 

2nd period: Sanchez takes bottom. A quick sit followed by a granby and he's free in under ten seconds. It's 1-0 still when action is stalemated at the 1:30 mark of the period. Soon afterwards, a far anke scramble ensues. Sidun appears to have the advantage throughout most of it but Sanchez is an experienced scrambler and he wrestles the position to a stalemate. 1-0 still with 30 seconds to go. Lots of wrestling but no more scores in the final 30 of the 2nd. 

3rd period: Sidun gets a turn on bottom. Sanchez tries to put on a ride on. Gets two nice mat returns before Sidun escapes to make it 1-1 with 1:11 left on the clock (I 1-der if that's a sign). Sidun has Sanchez in a front headlock in short offense for a good portion of the rest of the period but can't get a score. With 3 seconds left in regulation, Sanchez comes up from short offense and drives Sidun out of bounds, forcing a stall call on Sidun. More bonus wrestling!

Sudden victory: Sanchez reaches for a high-c. Sidun counters with an arm drag, looking for a go behind. Sidun whizzer kicks Sanchez out of bounds. No points or stalls but it looked cool. One minute remaining and it's still 1-1. Now just 30 seconds left. And we're getting even more bonus wrestling!

Rideout 1: Sanchez on top, Sidun underneath, 30 seconds on the clock. 2 big mat returns, but Sidun is out on the third attempt. Sanchez has 21 seconds of riding time. Score is 2-1. If it's 2-2 at the end of the next Rideout period, the tie will be broken with riding time. 

Rideout 2: Sanchez needs to get out in under 21 seconds. He's out in about 15. It's 2-2, and if it stays that way it'll be Sanchez by riding time. And that's how it ends! But the riding time clock is incorrect. It's showing 33 seconds of riding time for Sidun. Looks like it never started counting the other direction for Sanchez. And they're raising Sidun's hand. That can't be right. Okay they're calling everyone back and looking at the replay. Also Sidun is challenging for nearfall. No nearfall and the clock was corrected. Sanchez takes it in rideouts! 

That was another unique Who's Number One bout!

132: #1 Grey Burnett, OH defeats #2 Paul Kenny, NJ, 13-1

1st period: After some Oklahoma State Cowboys throw out some t-shirts to some rabid fans, we'll get to our final three bouts, and they are all bangers, as the kids would say (maybe they say that I don't know to be honest). Now we have future Big Ten rivals as Nittany Lion commit Burnett will try to hold on to his top ranking over Iowa commit, Kenny. These two have been wrestling each other since they were tiny tykes in Tulsa. Burnett has the edge lately but Kenny is capable of beating anyone in the country. Burnett strikes first with a takedown, but not after a lengthy scramble. Kenny escapes quickly to make it 3-1 halfway through the period. With about 30 seconds left in the period, Kenny drives Burnett out of bounds and the Ohioan is dinged with a stall warning. Burnett respondes with a blast double that sends the New Jerseyan crashing to the mat. Burnett covers for three and takes a 6-1 lead to the end of the period. 

2nd period: Burnett takes bottom and escapes quickly to run the score up to 7-1. He times a slick shot to collect three more and it's 10-1. Burnett now riding for over a minute. Legs are in and with a cross body claw ride he rolls Kenny over and earns two swipes before Kennny bellies out. That makes it 12-1 as the period ends, RT at over 2 minutes for Burnett. 

3rd period. Kenny chooses neutral as he attempts to dig himself out of a 11 point hole. Burnett chews up a good amount of clock with his hand fight, pummeling, and attacks. Kenny gets in on a deep shot. It's his best opportunity to score but Burnett defends and it's still 12-1, effectively 13-1 with RT locked up, now in short time. And you can put it in the books, as Burnett defends his ranking with the most dominant boys bout of the event so far! 

175: #1 Jayden O'Farrill, PA defeats #2 Zack Aquila, OH, 17-8

1st period: Last bout had no takedowns, this one had a takedown in the first 10 seconds, as Aquila (a future Little Rock Trojan) goes right at O'Farrill and converts for three. O'Farrill is out after 3 seconds to make it 3-1, and then answers with a takedown of his own and a 4-3 lead. O'Farrill. Aquila escapes to knot things up and the points are piling up. O'Farrill with some nifty elbow control to counter an Aquila shot and put himself in position to score. After a lengthy scramble O'Farrill secures the takedown and will take a 7-4 lead into the 2nd period. 

2nd period: Aquila goes optional start and we're in neutral. Aquila times a slick double and pulls to within a point. It's 8-7 O'Farrill as they go to referee's position. Another optional start, only this time Aquila decides to do a little bit of mat wrestling before cutting him loose. O'Farril works a collar tie, then a brutal snap to a go behind and he now leads 12-7. Aquila escapes and it's 12-8. Another snap/throw by but that doesn't land. And it's 12-8 (twenty points!) at the break.

3rd period: Aquila took neutral to begin our final stanza. It backfires though, as O'Farrill shoots him out of bounds and draws a stall call, Aquila's second, giving O'Farrill a point and a 13-8 leads. O'Farrill in on a single, Aquila tries for a gator bacon/high flyer/whatever you want to call it but it doesn't work and O'Farrill runs his total to 16 points. Riding time over a minute thirty for O'Farrill with just 16 seconds left in regulation. O'Farrill picks up a stall call on the way to his convincing (and highly entertaining) 17-8 victory! Kudos to both competitors for letting it fly out there. 

157: #2 Mac Crosson, IA defeats #1 Michael Romero, CA, 2-1

1st period: Romero should be the crowd favorite, as this is going to be his home gym once he starts attending Oklahoma State next fall. Crosson, on the other hand, will be at Nebraska. It's a fierce and deliberate opening two minutes. Crosson is dinged for stalling with just under a minute left in the first period. And we'll finish the period scoreless. 

2nd period: Crosson begins the period on bottom, hoping to break the goose egg off the scoreboard. And he succeeds, escaping in 8 seconds. We repeat the first period for the rest of the second period. No points, and no new stall calls either. It's 1-0 in Crosson's favor. 

3rd period: Romero gets a turn on bottom, hoping to wipe the bagel off his side of the score ledger. And he does, leveling the score to an even 1-1. Riding time could hardly be less of a factor, as it reads 0:01 in Romero's favor. Under a minute to go, still 1-1 though Crosson does have the stall call. Time expires in the period and we're getting more bonus wrestling!

Sudden victory: Who doesn't love extra wrestling at no extra cost to you? The flurries pick up but no scores after a minute. With 30 seconds to go both wrestlers collide in the center of the mat. Romero needs injury time because of the noggin bumping and Crosson gets choice of position. This could be the match. Crosson takes bottom with under 30 on the clock. He's out in under ten seconds and he'll take the bout! After a rather unique bout, Crosson is your new number one!

190: #2 Salah Tsarni, MD defeats #1 Mario Carini, CA, 8-5 (SV) 

1st period: Carini is one of two future Hokies (the other is in the main event), while Tsarni is bound for the Air Force when he graduates high school. Tsarni starts the match off with some heavy snaps to set up a blast double but Carini survives that and answers with a low double leg that secures him the first three points of the match. Tsarni escapes after 22 seconds of grappling and it's 3-1. Carini swoops in on a single leg with just under a minute left in the period. He lunges for Tsarni's second leg but runs out of real estate after an extended scramble and it's still 3-1, though Tsarni did pick up a stall warning for trying to kick out of a hold while going out of bounds. We'll now pause for some blood that's leaking out of Carini's nose. Carini is fine and his nose gets plugged up. Period ends, still 3-1. 

2nd period: Carini starts underneath. He escapes quickly. But Tsarni doesn't allow him to relax, getting a takedown halfway through the period and knotting up the score 4-4. Carini is out again quickly to regain the lead, 5-4. That's how the period ends. 

3rd period: Tsarni assume the bottom position. He's up to his feet, with Carini draped over top. Carini hangs on too long and picks up a stall call, then Tsarni gets the escape to make it 5-5. Tsarni applies pressure, he seems to be growing stronger as the match grows longer, or pehaps Carini is fading, pick your narrative. Riding time not a factor, Carini looking to end it in regulation now. He doesn't look to have faded here. But he can't get the takedown and we're going to our first overtime period of the day!

Sudden Victory: Both wrestlers start in neutral. Carini is in on a shot, Tsarni counters, Carini trying to roll through, Tsarni catches him, and Carini is on his back! Almost a no control pin but Tsarni will get the takedown and hold Carini in danger! No back points and eventually Carini bellies out and the ref blows the whistle. Tsarni is the new number one at 190! And he celebrates with a cartwheel and backflip. 

150: #1 Jason Dube, PA defeats #2 Clinton Shepherd, IN, 4-3

1st period: Another future Nittany Lion will try to usurp the current number one, who is currently uncommitted. Slow start to the match but action picks up at the midway point as Dube gets in on a shot and Shepard can't escape his clutches. It's 3-0 Dube but not for long as Shepard is free after 6 seconds to make it 3-1. Handfighting with minimal level changes for the final minute of the period. 

2nd period: Dube is underneath to start the next period. He stands and is out in no time to add a point and make it 4-1. Shepard picks up the pace halfway through the period and begins to string together a series of attacks. Dube keeps up with some chained defenses and reattacks for high entertainment value but low (as in zero) scoring value. The period ends, still 4-1 in Dube's favor. 

3rd period: It's Shepard underneath again. He escapes fiarly quickly and riding time is not a factor. Score is 4-2 and a takedown will give the Penn State commit the lead. Dube hit with a stall call. Shepard on the attack, another stall call. That narrows the lead to one. Shepard in on a shot. Dube is scrambling for an ankle. He's got one. Time ticks away and Dube holds on for the win and holds on to the number one ranking, though barely!

138: #2 Gavin Mangano, NY defeats #1 Dean Anderson, AZ, 9-4

1st period: It's two future felines as Penn State commit Mangano will try and unseat Northern Iowa commit Anderson. A lot of handfighting punctuated by limited flurries but no scores after two minutes. The action picks up just under the minute mark, as Mangano grabs a leg and sits Anderson on his butt. Mangano locks up a cradle and rocks Anderson to his back, but Anderson rolls all the way through and threatens Mangano. Quick recovery from Mangano and he converts a single leg with ten seconds left in the period to collect 3 points, a lead he'll take into the next period. 

2nd period: Anderson chooses bottom. He's out quickly, riding time not a factor at the moment, score is 3-1, Mangano. Anderson tryng to get on his offense, he's in on legs, Mangano cartwheels and he's free. Anderson stays offensive but all he gets out of it is scramble practice. Still 3-1, Mangano's choice. 

3rd period: Mangano elects the bottom position. Anderson cuts him loose and trails by three. Swing single for Anderson and he muscles through Mangano's defenses to tie it up, 4-4. Anderson immediately cuts Mangano to make it 5-4. Angel Cejudo in Anderson's corner, Coach KD in Mangano's corner, both with lots of advice for their wrestlers at the moment. Anderson shoots, Mangano counters, has a leg, gets Anderson in a cradle again. Anderson tries to roll all the way through but gets stopped halfway through. No near fall but three on the takedown. 8-4 in short time. Anderson can't break free and it's a 9-4 win with the riding time. Mangano is your new number one!

106: #2 Luke Loren, CA defeats #1 Kooper Deputy, PA via forfeit

Kooper Deputy will very likely be moving up a weight class as 106 was too much of a pull for him. Loren will assume the mantle as the new number one. 

120: #1 Brayden Wenrich, PA defeats #2 Michael Batista, NJ, 4-2

1st period: The first flurry yields no points, but then Lehigh Valley product Brayden Wenrich gets the first points of the match with a takedown early in the bout. After 43 seconds of tough riding, Michael Batista escapes to make it 3-1. Action continues through the period but the period ends mid-scramble with no more points. 

2nd period: Batista starts underneath (he's a future Maryland Terrapin by the way). He gets out just before riding time hits the minute mark. It's 3-2, still in Wenrich's favor. Good scrambles throughout the rest of the period but no more scoring. 

3rd period: Fargo champ Wenrich's turn on bottom. Batista goes optional start and Wenrich is free with a 4-2 leads and :54 seconds of riding time. Wenrich in a shot, Batista grabs an ankle for himself. They roll around a bit. There's a lot of pressure on those shins right now. Youch. Anyway, action stalemated. Back to neutral. Batista is just a takedown away from the lead (thank you, three-point takedown). Finally seconds of the period, wild scramble at the edge. Multiple throw by attempts by Batista are just barely thwarted by Wenrich's arms. Restart with just 4 seconds. Batista goes flying squirrel but to no avail. Wenrich stays number one! 

215: #2 Jimmy Mastny, IL defeats #4 Mick Moylan, CA, 9-0

1st period: Michael Boyle is playing football (and likely moving up to heavyweight so we'll have a battle for #1 with the current #2 and #4 from the preseason rankings. Moylan is headed to North Carolina, as was Braylon Reynolds from the last match, while Mastny is on his way to Iowa State. And to be complete, since I didn't mention it last match, Grejada is an Ohio State. No scores after a minute, but quite a lot of handfighting. The same can be said about the second minute of the first period. And we go a full three minutes with no scores. But most normal humans would have been pummeled into the earth from those snaps and clubs from both wrestlers. Still, nothing to nothing after the first. 

2nd period: Moylan starts the period on bottom. Mastny locks up a two-on-one and rolls through for a tight waist tilt. He'll get a full compliment of back points before Moylan bellies out. Moylan still getting chewed up after a minute of riding time. Moylan is able to get to his feet a couple of times but is thunderously brought back to the mat every time. Mastny gets the rideout and takes a 4-0 lead and 120 seconds of RT into the third period.

3rd period: Mastny is up and out quickly to make it 5-0. The future Cyclone goes on the attack and collects three more with a takedown. Workmanlike rideout and it's a 9-0 win for Jimmy Mastny!

144: #1 Jesse Grajeda, CA defeats #2 Braylon Reynolds, IN, 7-5

1st period: Our first contested bout of the evening is between Grajeda, coached by Rueben Valencia, and Reynolds, coached by Chard Red Sr. Both coaches have been attending Who's Number One with their athletes since the beginning of the event. Single leg from Grajeda and after an extended scramble it's Grajeda who collects the three. We're doing college folkstyle rules in case you were wondering. Reynolds escapes quickly for the 1 point. Grajeda pushes Reynolds to the boundary before they're restarted in the center, at which point Grajeda shoots a double and runs Reynolds down on the far side of the mat, dragging his legs in bounds to complete the takedown. Reynolds escapes with just a couple seconds left in the period and the riding time clock at 0:58 for Grajeda. 6-2 Jesse at the break. 

2nd period: Reynolds starts on bottom and granbies off the whistle for a quick escape. RT at 1:01. Reynolds then shoots Grajeda out of bounds, which draws a stall warning on Grajeda. Another attack by Reynolds and Grajeda collects another stall to give Reynolds another point and it's 6-4 midway through the second. Reynolds on a leg but this time Grajeda escapes with no harm, nor foul. Period ends 6-4 in Grajeda's favor and 1:01 on the RT clock, though Grajeda has collected two stall calls. 

3rd period: Grajeda starts on bottom. He's too eager to escape and gets hit with two cautions before a clean start and escape. It's 7-4, though the RT clock is now at under one minute. Action resumes, in a flurry on the edge and Grajeda gets dinged again for stalling to make it 7-5. The Reynolds fans are pumped and the Grajeda fans are angered. Grajeda comes off the next whistle guns blazing and has Reynolds in trouble. It's an awkward scramble and Grajeda is trying to muscle his way to three points but action is eventually stalemated. Under a minute left in the match and it's starting to get hairy out there. Dirty scrambling for about 30 seconds. And I do mean filthy. They go out of bounds, this time no stall call and just 7 seconds left. Reynolds desperation shot. He's behind Grajeda. They're down on the mat. Reynolds is fully behind Grajeda's hips and in control but Grajeda has a whizzer in. Was it enough to stave off the comeback? Let's see what the call is. It's no takedown. Equal amounts of boos and cheers rain down Gallagher-Iba. Grajeda holds on to the number one ranking and that's a heck of a way to start the boys matches at Who's Number One! 

113: #2 Evan Restivo, PA wins by forfeit over #1 Analu Woode, HI

Woode wanted the match at scratch weight but his body unfortunately wouldn't cooperate and he had to forfeit the contest due to medical reasons. Restivo will become the new number one 113lber, and it's more than likely that Woode will move up weight classes

1st period: It's the main event of the girls card as Elison looks for an early arm drag, but neither wrestler is able to generate offense in the opening exchanges. The action stays in the center with both competitors handfighting and searching for their ties. Solomon is warned for passivity with 1:45 remaining and later works from a front headlock, but Elison fights back to her feet. A second passivity warning puts Solomon on the activity clock, and when she is unable to score, Elison earns a point to take a 1-0 lead. Near the edge of the mat, Solomon counters with a two-point score to move in front 2-1 with 30 seconds left. The period closes without any additional scoring, and Solomon carries a 2-1 lead into the break.

2nd period: Elison comes out attacking and gets to a double leg early. She attempts to elevate Solomon over her shoulders and finishes the takedown while Solomon also picks up a point and a caution during the sequence. Elison leads 4-2 with 2:15 remaining. After a stretch of handfighting in the center, Elison shoots again and is met with a front headlock from Solomon. Elison peeks out of the position, transitions back to a double and finishes another takedown to extend her lead to 6-2 with just over a minute left. Solomon responds with a low single attempt, and after Elison's reattack, Solomon counters with a chin whip and comes around for a go-behind takedown to cut the deficit to 6-4 with 20 seconds remaining. In the closing moments, Solomon attacks a left-side single and then drives Elison out of bounds for a stepout point, making it 6-5 with seven seconds left. A late caution and point for Solomon ties the score at 6-6, giving her the advantage on criteria. Elison fires off one final shot but cannot score before time expires. Solomon completes the comeback, earns the upset and takes over the No. 1 ranking.

140 lbs: #1 Landri Von Gonten (TX) defeats #2 Maddie Marsh (IN), 11-6

1st period: Von Gonten attacks early with a high crotch but can't finish, and Marsh briefly gets to a leg of her own before the wrestlers scramble back to neutral. Von Gonten secures a front headlock and looks for short offense, but the action is stopped and restarted in the center. Marsh continues to attack with a single leg, though Von Gonten's defense forces another stalemate. The breakthrough comes when Von Gonten finishes a left-side single and immediately transitions into a gut wrench, building a 4-0 lead with one minute remaining. Marsh gets in on another leg, but Von Gonten's whizzer defense keeps her from scoring. With 40 seconds left, Von Gonten converts a high crotch into a double leg and returns Marsh to the mat for four more points, extending her lead to 8-0. She appears to score again on a late high crotch, but the officials rule time had expired before the action was completed. Von Gonten takes an 8-0 lead into the break.

2nd period: Marsh gets on the board immediately with a bundle for two points to start the second period. She later looks for a chin whip, but Von Gonten counters and extends her lead to 10-2 with 1:45 remaining, needing just two more points for a technical fall. Marsh continues to attack from a left-side single, but Von Gonten sprawls and survives a scramble before the action is stalemated. With one minute left, Von Gonten gets to a high crotch, but Marsh counters with a chin whip and scores exposure points while threatening a fall. Von Gonten fights off her back and comes away with a reversal to make it 11-4. Marsh continues to press the action in the final 30 seconds, attacking from upper-body ties and later finishing a single-leg takedown late, but time runs out before she can close the gap. Von Gonten earns an 11-6 victory, keeping her No. 1 ranking and picking up her second career Who's Number One win.

110 lbs: #2 Isla Silva (PA) defeats #1 Sarissa Tucker (VA), 4-2

1st period: Tucker electrifies the crowd early with a highlight-reel 360-spin takedown to take a 2-0 lead.
