The college wrestling offseason is winding down, and programs across the country are preparing for another NCAA season.

While schedules vary from team to team, the start of the college wrestling season marks the return of dual meets, open tournaments and some of the sport's biggest regular-season events.

As wrestlers begin their journeys toward conference championships and the NCAA Championships, fans will once again have opportunities to watch many of the nation's top athletes compete.

Here's what to know about the start of the college wrestling season.

When Does The College Wrestling Season Start?

The NCAA wrestling season typically begins in early November, with programs returning to competition after months of preseason training.

Teams usually open their seasons with a mix of dual meets, open tournaments and invitational events before conference competition begins later in the year. The opening weeks of the season often provide the first look at incoming freshmen, transfers and returning All-Americans.

As schedules continue to be announced, fans can expect college wrestling action to ramp up quickly once competition begins.

What Are The Biggest Events During The College Wrestling Season?

Several of the sport's most recognizable tournaments help shape the college wrestling landscape each year.

Among the notable events are:

  • Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational (CKLV)
  • National Duals Invitational
  • Midlands Championships
  • Southern Scuffle

Many of the nation's top wrestlers and teams compete at these events, making them some of the most anticipated stops on the college wrestling calendar outside of the postseason.

How Does The College Wrestling Postseason Work?

After the regular season concludes, teams turn their attention to conference championships and NCAA qualification.

Conference tournaments determine many of the automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Championships and often feature some of the most important matches of the season. Wrestlers then advance to the NCAA Championships, where team and individual national titles are on the line.

For many athletes, the NCAA Championships represent the culmination of an entire season's worth of preparation and competition.

When Are The NCAA Wrestling Championships?

The 2027 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships are scheduled for March 18-20 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.

The event marks the conclusion of the college wrestling season and determines both the individual national champions and the NCAA team champion. Wrestlers must first qualify through the regular season and their respective conference championships before earning a spot in the national tournament.

The NCAA Championships annually feature the nation's top wrestlers across all 10 weight classes and are considered the premier event in college wrestling.
