How They Reached Final X
Gomez reached Final X by winning the 2026 U.S. Open. She defeated Rayana Sahagun (10-0), Rianne Murphy (10-0), Morgan Turner (4-3), Felicity Taylor (3-1), and Erin Golston (5-0).
Turner reached Final X by winning the 2026 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament. She defeated Samara Chavez (11-0), Erin Golston (5-0), and Felicity Taylor (10-8).
What Should You Expect?
What do you get when two age-level World champions from the United States go head-to-head? In this case, you get Morgan Turner vs Katie Gomez — two dynamic wrestlers with a diverse range of offense.
Don’t be surprised if Turner reminds you of Jordan Burroughs. She trains with the seven-time World/Olympic champion and will occasionally sport the “All I See Is Gold” singlet. Her reattacks are next level (just like Burroughs), and her shots are timed perfectly (just like Burroughs).
The Lockport, Illinois, native wrestled in two tournaments at Women’s Nationals (she won both), the U.S. Open, and the World Team Trials Challenge tournament. Turner has improved from tournament to tournament, and she’s one of the best in the world at scoring on a low single off the whistle.
Gomez can do the same. Her low-level shots are fast and timed perfectly, and she has an effective leg lace. She dropped from 53 kg, where she has spent most of her Senior career, but has found success at her new weight. She won the 2023 U.S. Open against Samara Chavez before falling to Dom Parrish at Final X.
Van Nuys, California, should feel good about her recent successes. She won the U.S. Open in the deepest domestic women’s freestyle field and won the Pan-Am Championships several days later. Gomez is a proven winner.
This could be the best Final X series, with Gomez winning a close match at the U.S. Open. That won’t matter here. A stand-alone best-of-three series reveals more than a tournament, and only one will emerge victorious in a ridiculously loaded weight.
