How They Reached Final X

Nette reached Final X by winning the 2026 US Open. She defeated Ruby Julien-Newsom (10-0), Samantha Barragan (10-0), Lexi Janiak (11-0), and Michaela Beck (10-0).

Janiak reached Final X by winning the 2026 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament. She defeated Alex Szkotnicki (3-2) and Amani Jones (4-1).

What Should You Expect?

Nette proved she’s ready to win a Senior World medal after dominating the field at the 2026 Pan-Am Championships. She toppled Canada’s 2025 World bronze medalist Laurence Beauregard, 12-2, by winning the flurries, staying in solid position, and scoring with a cradle.

The St. Rose, Louisiana, native is at the top of her game after outscoring four opponents 41-0 at the 2026 US Open. She has a recent 11-0 tech over Janiak at the US Open, offering clues about what Final X might look like.

Nette was close making the World Team last year, opening with a 6-4 lead over 2019 World champion before dropping the next two, 9-7 and 11-0. She seems more motivated than ever, and it will be tough to knock her off in a best-of-three series.

Janiak has a unique style, hitting low singles and arm drags, and forcing her opponents into scrambles. She likes to create offense on her opponent’s shots, as evidenced by her 17-17 comeback win for a bronze medal at the 2025 U23 Worlds. Her defeat against Italy's Aurora Russo in the 2023 U20 semifinals remains one of the most controversial finishes of all time. Still, it served as a learning experience that Janiak applied in subsequent matches.

Par terre defense is the name of the game for Janiak. She absolutely cannot give up turns. The two went scoreless for 90 seconds before Nette forced the action with a two-on-one to a single on Janiak’s right leg. She scored a takedown and a gut wrench to break open the match, 5-0, after an activity clock point.

Nette smothered an attempted drag by Janiak and took over from there, earning an 11-0 tech. We’ve seen Janiak make adjustments before, and her three age-level World medals shine bright. Two wins against an experienced and driven Nette will be a tough task for a rising and promising young star.
