Welker reached Final X by winning a bronze medal at the 2025 Senior World Championships.
Guilford reached Final X by winning the 2026 US Open. She entered as the one seed and defeated Kathryn Hingano (6-4), Kiley Dillow (Fall 2:53), Naomi Simon (8-1), and Tristan Kelly (3-1).
What Should You Expect?
Welker is wrestling out of her mind right now, earning a gold medal at the 2026 Pan-Am Championships against a loaded field.
She defeated Tatiana Renteria (Colombia) in the quarterfinals, 11-0. Renteria is a 2023 World bronze medalist and a 2024 Olympic bronze medalist.
She defeated Milaimy Marin (Cuba) in the semifinals by fall (4:41). Marin is 2024 Olympic bronze medalist and 2025 World bronze medalist.
She defeated Genesis Reasco (Ecuador) in the finals by fall (4:20). Reasco is a 2025 World champion.
That’s on top of winning the 180-pound title at the inaugural NCAA Championships in March.
The Franksville, Wisconsin, native is an offensive juggernaut, hitting snatch singles, knee taps, counters, and turns seemingly at will. And she’s only getting better.
Guilford and Welker have wrestled seven times, with Welker winning five, but the matches are typically close. Guilford is several inches shorter than Welker and can explode for takedowns.
Welker swept the series last year, but the matches were tight. Even the 9-1 win is deceptive since Welker only led 2-1 with a minute left before scoring four on a counter throw to break open the match.
Make no mistake. This is Welker’s to win, and her recent Pan Am title is a reflection of her ceiling, but Guilford has a style that can cause problems if the Hawkeye star isn’t ready.
